Yes, it looks like he's automatically downloading 50 Wu's per day & not crunching any of them ... :/

Well he needs to ask for help first, I think a lot of these computers with these problems are just un-attended by whom ever installed BOINC in the first place and they are not even aware of the problem ...

Hey, ...he actually finished ONE WU a couple months ago.

I bet he doesn't run out during slow times. ha ha ha

Looks like he had to reset the project a couple times. He just joined Boinc and may not know about the help available here.

Here's to hoping he figures it out.

I think youre right, PoorBoy, but lets figure what is happening. If it is an unattended installation and the WUs are not crunched, why the host continues to download new WUs - it is supposed to have enough work and not to get new WUs untill the deadline or the succesfull reply. Any ideas?

No, he has finished more WUs (he has credit: 2,477.94) but the records were probably wiped by the server.

He more than likely just has his Preferences to connect set way to high ... So the computer just connects everyday and downloads 50 more Wu's ... Old habits are hard to break for some of the new crunchers, I've heard where some of the people that ran Seti Classic would keep 100 days worth of Wu's on there computers so thats probably his thinking ... Or he could think the higher he sets it the less often the computer will connect to the server whens it is actually the other way around ...

Hmmm... maybe I wasnt clear enough: If he made in his prefs - connect every day, he will download enogh Wus for a day or so. On the next day he will have same WUs untouched and hi will not download new ones. If his prefs are to connect every 14 days, he will download enough WUs for two weeks (14x10or12=140or160). After 3 or 4 days he will have enough WUs and will not get more.
I just made a little experiment - I set my prefs to 100 days and the server accepted it!!! I couldnt believe that is possible to set that high number!!! I have no idea how many WUs would get my client... Of course I returned it to a normal 2 days. Probably it is a bug in the project and it has to be fixed asap. Otherwise we will see many machines like this.

Actually unless they have changed something if you set your preferences to 14 days you are really asking for 28 days of work ... Thats the way the connect to server preference was originally set up anyway ...

I'm sure if the dev's look at this
they could leave a message at the Team Art Bell
Forum asking him to check his system & to check his connection
Preferences.
Just a thought......

I just went to the website for Team Art Bell and gave the webmaster a heads up. Maybe they can get in contact with him/her and get it fixed.

A way to solve problems like this would be the following:

the server at Berkeley compares the number of returned WU's against the number of sended WU's for a certain period of time. If there is a big mismatch between both, no WU's are sended anymore.

At that moment, a clear message should appear in the message tab of Boinc telling the user that too much WU's has still to be crunched first in order to receive any further WU's.

I don't believe this would be too hard to implement.

Your right Thierry, the Server should be able to recognize no Wu's are being Crunched by this Host and not send anymore until some are Crunched instead of just giving the Host 50 more Wu's per day like everything is normal ... IMO

Can't be done in Boinc! In Boinc the computer that downloads the units MUST crunch AND return those same units. There is some security coding involved.
In the future a possible queue system could be released, it is rumoured to be in Beta now.

And I bet the Cheaters are licking their chops awaiting the release of a queue system too ...
