A Windows devotee, I installed Linux on a motherboard/hard disk combination and ran Boinc, which downloaded some work units and invoked the Seti@Home client. Then I added some commands to the .profile file to start Boinc automatically and rebooted. Then Boinc said he could not find (link to) client_state.xml, added a new section to the present client_state.XML file, downloaded some new work units, and started crunching them. Now it calls Seti@Home to crunch work units first from one group and then from the other, but it will not report the results from the first group to the server. It uploads the results, but it does not report them. Does anyone know if client_state.XML can be edited to make it look like one contiguous file. Now it looks like two files one tacked on to the end of the other.

Sounds weird.

I'd try to reset the project via command line option.
You'll lose some WU's, but that's better than having a broken configuration.

Regards Hans

I'd rather go out in a blaze of glory -- so I did both. Editing the client_state.xml file did cause Boinc to return the processed results. However, when I rebooted it said:

Every time I reboot it does this -- it says it cannot find the client_state.xml file, creates a new HostID, adds a new project to the end of the client_state file, and downloads more WUs. I rebooted 4 times this morning and it created 4 new HostIDs, and downloaded over 80 WUs. I login as root. Why would it do that?
