Well, these folks are not patient enough to sit and listen for ET like we do here at S@H. They want to start tweeting ET right now! Link to news article: Lone Signal aims to send "hello!" tweets Lone Signal website: Lone Signal website "It is often darkest just before it turns completely black." |

I find Lone Signal very interesting to be honest so much so that I ended up becoming the top beamer. I used my first free message then spent $20 for 400 credits and let me tell you 400 credits goes a long way, a lot longer than I had expected. There is always two parts to communication, speaking and listening. METI (Lone Signal) is the speaking and SETI is the listening. I find the two ideas are two sides to the same coin. They probably wont be able to decode our messages but neither will we if we discover an alien signal through SETI, so its a lose/lose situation and also a win/win as well. In the end its all about discovery in my humble opinion. P.S. I'm not advertising them by the way, just wanted to chime in is all. |

We've been sending signals into space unintentionally since 1938. Still no call back, yet. In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

earlier than that - go back to the very first transmissions by Marconi et-al, although low power they were by their very nature broad band, and their sudden appearance and continued growth over the last one hundred years would be a "trigger for interest". All this I 100% agree with but maybe just by dumb luck all those radio broadcasts over the last 100 years have just gone out into space haphazardly, missing habituated systems. Lone Signal actively tracks HD 119850 (Gliese 526) and beams a signal directly at it. Well I guess we'll see in 36 years and SETI projects will be the ones to detect a response. Sounds kind of exciting to me. |

Hi, I read about Lone Signal a few days ago (well, in this topic actually) and tried it out. My beam was sent yesterday and is currently travelling to Gliese 526. You can also send pictures, which costs a little more. I thought I'd recommend it. It's a fun thing and maybe SETI@Home discovers the replies in 35 years.. :D |

Well they've cocked it up to start with! We have a solar system because we have called our particular star, the sun, Sol from the Latin. Whatever their planetary system is called, they won't understand the term Solar system, because they won't have one. And they want to raise $100 million? I wouldn't suggest anyone holds their breath :-) There are a lot of fools out there willing to part with their hard earned cash. And a lot of others who think that just because there may be a planet capable of supporting life circling a particular star then it must host intelligent beings who want to communicate with us. Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. This no longer applies in light of current events. |
