Hi there, I apologize if this has been answered previously; I searched the forums but didn't find anything...anyway, I had to reformat the hard drive in my computer. I reinstalled Boinc with no problem, but now when I look at my "computers on this account" it recognizes my reformatted hard drive as a separate computer. That doesn't surprise me so much, so I thought I'd "merge" them...well, I did, and it merged two computers successfully, but not the two I wanted. Is there anyway to have the old and newly formatted drive recognized as the same computers? There were tasks still in progress on the old HD, I suppose I should have thought of stopping tasks but I didn't! Thanks for any assistance or suggestions! |

Ah, the mysteries of the "merge two computers"... First, you can't get rid of a computer from S@H, they are all there, forever. You can however merge computers that are "the same" - as you have already found. Don't worry about incomplete tasks on a computer that has been taken out of service, they will time out for that computer and be sent to another one. Try doing a manual merge rather than an automatic one, sometimes it works better, I've had to do that a couple of times when S@H has refused to merge two identical computers (it went through a spell of generating new computers for no good reason). The other "solution" is to leave all alone, you've got the credits, and they will stay with you, and in a few weeks the old one will "fade from display"... Good luck. First, you can't get rid of a computer from S@H, they are all there, forever. You can! As soon as the online task list of a computer is empty, you can delete it. What you can't delete is a user account. Gruß, Gundolf Computer sind nicht alles im Leben. (Kleiner Scherz) SETI@home classic workunits 3,758 SETI@home classic CPU time 66,520 hours |
