I first started helping SETI@Home on sept 13/04 and up untill today I had not realized there was any SETI program other than the one I had (I guess its SETI Classic). Im just curious about why if SETI wants people to use this program instead of the classic then why is there no mention of this newer program on the classic website other than a little link? I personally am confused as to what program I should use and if all the work my computer has done since september is even used or if it was just tossed.

Normally I would have found the information I was looking for on one of the websites. But overall all Im getting is more and more confused because it looks like they don't care eather way.

Good question....

I think they're going to wait until Boinc is 100% ready to go with the new GUI and new 4.5x client before they really start forcing people over. Why they aren't at least making boinc more visible now, though, I haven't a clue. It seems strange.

Ahh so they are still working on BOINC and the Classic is still the "main" program. Now it makes alot more sense =) I assumed BOINC was fully operational so it was confusing.

Thanks for the help =)

PS. Is there anyway to transfer my credits over to BOINC? I know they said after they moved over in may that we would just have to start over. But Im wondering if there's some other method that I just missed. I have 249 units done and it seems like a shame to lose em =(

No - there is no way to transfer wu's completed using Classic to Boinc. The credit system is different. Classic will be turned off once the Boinc upgrades are complete.

there will be a record of your classic credit, but you will only be increasing boinc credit if you joining boinc

If you have processed already WU's using S@H Classic before the 14th of May, the best thing is to go to the participate page and use the "Activate the account" in stead of "Create a new account". Using the first option will bring up the S@H Classic WU's already processed under your account, otherwise not. They will not merge with the WU's here, but will be mentionned as WU's processed for S@H Classic.

As mentionned
Get a SETI@home account:
If you had an account in the original 'SETI@home Classic' project as of 14 May 2004:
We've transferred your account, including profile and team information.
You must now activate the account.
Otherwise: Create a new account

Im not all hooked up on moving the credits from classic to BOINC. I just wanted to make sure the old classic records would not be tossed out the window. So Im still happy =D

PS.I should be happy just to help (and I am) but there's something special about KNOWING how much you have helped =) also I really want to thank everyone who's been nice enough to answer my questions. To be honest Im not used to finding such helpful people on a online forum. Most of the time I end up being called a idiot by atleast 1 person =\

Another reason Boinc Seti will replace Seti Classic is, from the "About Seti@Home" link at this site:
http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_about.php
See the section under "multiple applications".
