I heard of SETI@home few years ago but I'm present here since 6 mounths, 2 weeks and 4 days. It's definitely the biggest scientifical project accessibled to all EVER. The project wouldn't continue to exist if we didn't take part to SETI@home. I took part, we took part, I continue the adventure and we continue the adventure too ;-) . Best regards from FRANCE !!! From Handsome Harry to all Happy Thanksgiving! Used to think I had to much computing power! Like who needs 4 computers in a house of two? Glad I found SETI and can put all that power to GOOD use. Just about a week and I really have had no problems except CPU usage over runs but setting the usage to 95% stopped the start/stop on two of the computers. I think i have improved the amount of completed conversion by not haveing the 20 sec. no running tasks every 30 seconds or so. Hope I make at least 5 Million next year. Happyn SETI'ing! |

Seti funding is so low that all the staff are basically part timers and have been exceptional over the years. If the problems really annoy you that much, then donate to help the project or better yet organize a fund raiser seti party's can be fun or a garage sale maybe, doing speaks louder than coplaning. |

Its nice to be appreciated. Remember that every unit that completes is successful. It give a result and tells us what is or isn't there. The more units processed, the better our statistics are and the more sure we can be of what that statistic shows. Over time we can be more and more confident that there is very little up there for intelligent life if any. In the unlikely event that we detect something, it will be good to know that. If we never detect anything, it will also be good to know that. Personally I like the fact that we've been processing for more than a decade with no positive results. Therefore, I choose negative. That conclusion tells us that we need to get cracking and make our own aliens by getting out there in space, spread out, loose track of each other, and fill the universe with (more or less) intelligent life. It will take <<million years for us to populate this galaxy alone which is nothing in astronomical terms. Enough of science fiction with its goofy aliens and flying saucers. We need real science with real space ships and real advancement for life in this universe. Expanding into space is to watching old sci-fi TV shows as genuine reproductive sex with one's lifelong spouse is to [you know what to put here]. Close that comic book and open a science book. (if you are brave enough) - It will be a much more interesting story and the special effects are infinitely more real. Clear Skies!! Spaceward Ho!! Running SETI@HOME to show the kids that there is no monster to see in that closet, unless there is a mirror on the back wall. No monsters, No psychics, No aliens, until real (unlikely) proof is found. Occam's razor is sanity and it also says no. |

I'm thankful not only for the opportunity to help in the search, but to everyone in the lab, who's modus operandi is to go above and beyond their normal duties practically every day including days off. Cheers folks. Member of the People Encouraging Niceness In Society club. |

We're thankful for you, our volunteers, who continue to donate your time, computers and money to keep SETI@home up and running and improving. Thanks to you Eric, I'll always be arround trying to be of some help, not by being in your seat doing your job, but I will be in my home giving the 24/7 of my server and workstation for the project!!! |

I would like to express my thanks to the whole team for their tireless efforts to make life easy for us dummies. I think I started on Win 95 before I saw the light. Since then I have run Boinc/Seti on a motley assortment of salvaged machines , using early unix/BSD, any number of Linux variations , sometimes on command line. Now this thing happens to have Mac OS X on a dual boot with Mint 10 ( I think ). I can honestly state that I have had very few problems over the years , most being of my own making. Thus any criticism of the Boinc/ Berkeley team would seem to me to be ill founded. Rob ( UK ) . |
