I have a new Dell Dimension 3000 with a Intel 865 GV chipset(Springdale?)...2.8 gig, L2cahe of 1M, 400DDR memory(actually 333).

Dell has a non-descript motherboard made by who knows who.

Motherboard Monitor will not work.

Dell has been no help...even they can't tell me what motherboard is in my machine....one support person told me "Planar" but couldn't give me a model number, and it doesn't matter because I cannot find a monitor program that works with Planar.

Does this mean I have no temp sensors on my board?

I have tried CPUcool, Speedfan, and all the Freeware I can find to no avail.

Is there software out there that will track my CPU temp?

Do I have to install an aftermarket temperature probe....how do I do that? With what?

Thanks!

Hi, to help find out motherboard information have you tried Sandra Lite from SiSoftware (free!) it can tell tell you your mainboard and chipset make, model etc, and also tells you your CPU and mainboard temperature (although not moniter just a one off reading at time of query). Once you have found out true identitiy of motherboard it might make your search for other info. easier.... Good luck

I'm not sure the DirectX diagnostic will help. I have a Dell Inspiron 600M, and DxDiag does not tell me the manufacturer of my motherboard - only the bios and processor. It says the manufacturer is Dell. More like the "put together company").

I was able to get a CPU temperature monitor program for my 600M through a reference on this board ( I8kfanGUI @ http://www.diefer.de/i8fan/index.html )

Have You tried the freeware cpuZ?

Web page cpuZ

This tool give some more information. One this MainBoard the sensor, "winbond" is used. try to figure out technical spects, and sensor.

Some of the monitoring tools must be adjusted to the fitting hardware

good luck

That is a nice program, and thanks for the reference. But it still identifies my motherboard manufacturer as Dell. I don't think Dell makes their own notebook motherboards, though I could be wrong. I suspect their agreement with the actual motherboard manufacturer is to have the "Dell brand name "programmed" into one of the motherboard support chips.

My two hand assembled desktops, SIS and FIC motherboards, identify OK.

javalaran,

What model is your computer. Dell does not install temperature sensors in most motherboards so monitoring software is not an issue in most cases

Motherboard Monitor support site has list of supported boards. I recall that there is 2 or 3 Dell models. The MBM author probably didn't get any help from Dell in adding support from those either. Either the board has no sensors that can be read by programs or Dell just won't release the specs for MBM or SpeedFan to read them. If you want monitoring, best thing is to build your own with a supported board next time around.

Try the program EVEREST Home edition from Lavalys Inc. If it can determine your chipset and motherboard it will display the voltages, fan speed, and temperatures for you. Check the web site http://www.lavalys.co.uk/
