My love is sooooooooooo fatigued these days, but perhaps a bit of new hope on the horizon. It does make me so sad when I talk to her over the phone and I can tell how tired she is that day.
Today is her last day on the Incivek pills. It's been 3 months now.
That is the third drug in the cocktail, the one that has made her new hope possible after all these years. The new crusader. The double edged sword.
My prayer is that upon discontinuing the Incivek, some of her side effects may wain over the next few weeks and give her some relief. She shall no longer have to schedule her life around eating and taking those purple pills, no longer have to worry about stuffing herself with 20 grams of fat 3 times a day before she takes them. No having to get up at 5am, eating and taking the pills, no having to stay up until after 10pm to take the last dose of the day.
The docs still want her to keep up the ribavirin and interferon for another, I dunno......loooooooooooong time. Months.
But if she can get a little relief from discontinuing 1 of her meds, maybe she can deal with it.
I have read stories from other people on this treatment.....
Some claim relief within days. Some claim the side effects actually became amplified when they stopped Incivek.
I can only hope and pray for the best in Lori's case.
Her blood tests Tuesday indicated her anemia had not gotten worse, yet she is soooooooo tired lately. Maybe being able to sleep more shall help.
She goes to Froedert's hospital for another checkup with her primary on Monday.
I'll keep you posted if there is anything more newsworthy to share.
Otherwise, it's just a continuing struggle for her.
Please continue to send her your prayers and wishes of support, strength, and comfort. They shall not go unused.

She's tired, but I just talked to her.....
Wondering what she can stomach for that last 20 gram fat meal and those last two pills.
I do so hope there is some relief for her on the horizon soon.

There are times, sitting on the couch with her to give her company, that I can tell she is so driven down even I cannot really do much else than to just be there.
And that is a very powerless feeling.
You all have given so much.....maybe that is why she has made it this far....

Mark & Lori,
I'm glad to see that this particular step in your treatment is drawing to a close (I talk to you both - while Lori is actually taking the tablets, its a treating you both, and has been tough on you both, albeit in different ways).
Mark has been, and continues to be, a great friend to you Lori, and I'm grateful that you have one who has stood so firmly beside you, loves yo and cares for you.
I will of course continue to pray for you both, God Bless the two of you.

It just struck me like Thor's hammer.
The reason I like some of these gurl singers so much is they remind me of Lori when she was young and strong.
Mind you, some of them were before her I met her, but some afterwards.
All I Wanna Do...
No wonder I love her so much......
She don't look like that these days, but then again, neither do I, as it were.
Love, once rendered, does not pass easily.
And, it never has in my case

FYI, ribavirin is known for her thyroid depressing side-effects.
The fatigue, also mostly comes from hypo-thyrioidie, too low T4, tyrosine the hormone and a high T.S.H. (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone).Signal from the 'brain'.
It's also one of the strongest Anti-Viral agents. Unfortunatly, also
with the most and worst side-effects.
But you also can't stop for a few weeks. Consult your physician and ask
about the thyroid glands.
(Had to use it myself, for 6 months in a row, also PEG-alpha-interferon-2b
injections, twice a week).

Thank you for the update Mark, I'm glad there's one treatment Lori can knock off the list, more importantly the side effects, please pass along a WOOHOO from me.
Oh, and if she asks why your shouting WOOHOO, tell her some guy on the internet told you to :)
