New UK Gas Flue Regulations

In case you didn't know.

From 1 January 2013 gas engineers who are unable to visually inspect the length of your boiler flue should advise you that it is 'At Risk' and will ask your permission to turn it off, to ensure they comply with industry guidance. This may occur if you call in an engineer to service or repair your boiler. You can refuse to let the gas engineer permission to turn off your boiler, but you will be asked to sign paperwork to confirm you accept responsibility for those defects identified in the system which could result in a serious incident.

Well done UK authorities. I lost an Aunt & her whole immediate family (In Holland) to bodgey boiler flu repair. There'll be swearing, but it will save lives.

What worries me is the people who rent from dodgy landlords. If they have a problem or an annual service, the gas engineer gets called in, and could shut it down as unsafe. The landlord then starts being iffy about getting work done, possibly resulting in people with young families without heating or hot water for a considerable time.

This has not been publicised in the UK to my knowledge and I only found out about it a few days ago in my June Which? magazine. So I thought I would mention it here. It's not really a "proper" use of the Seti boards to be honest, but I hope my good intention will be allowed.
