For quite some time now (last 3 - 4 months) setiathome_enhanced has been crashing consistently whenever it touches any data. I have very little troubleshooting data to go on other than the fact that the reported image of setiathome_6.03_windows_intelx86.exe seems to be a non-standard PE image. Its base address is correct and it has a time stamp, but it has no size or checksum. The Version Information structure also seems to be distressingly incomplete.

Not that it probably matters, but this is NOT an Intel. It's AMD.

Also, this machine has a fake GPU (GeForce 6150SE nForce 430). Unselecting use GPU in prefs has no effect. Unselecting use Setiathome Enhanced has no effect either.

What steps can I take to narrow down this problem? I.e., where are the logs? I see no logs in the project directory (along with the executable). There are BOINC logs, but these give no indication of what's going on with setiathome_6.03_windows_intelx86.

It's been reported that AMD CPUs run a tad less reliable on this project. That can be solved by using the Lunatics Optimized application, inside the 0.39 installer available from here. (Or if you can wait till next week, then installer 0.40 comes out which includes all the AstroPulse version 6 and Seti-Enhanced version 7 applications). You can use this FAQ as a guideline to installing the opti-apps.

However, the error you run into, exit code -1073741819 (0xc0000005) is handled in this FAQ. It could well be something completely different.

The Intel in the name of the executable doesn't mean it's for Intel CPUs only. Its full name intelx86, or short x86 stands for the instruction set architecture, this being 32bit. So this application is a 32bit application. Were it a 64bit, it would show as name_x86_64.exe. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X86 for more on that.

Real is just a matter of perception.

Cool - I think I'll just wait on it. Thanks.

Yeah I didn't think it Intel/AMD would have made a dif, but there are still non-priv issues one can run into between these two if one is in the habit of tweaking by hand.

5: heheheh. That's what the IsBad<xxx>Ptr family is for!
