Message 1107909 - Posted: 20 May 2011, 12:30:44 UTC

Tried to start my pc this afternoon, windows repair started on its own, but was unable to resolve problems. Tried to start in safe mode, no go. went to sys restore, again no luck. Finally went to sys recovery and was able to get pc running again. Seems to be running O.K. There is one remaining problem I can't resolve. If I let boinc run with no other activity, after 30-45 minutes windows shuts down, it also stops processing current task. If I am using the pc, it will run without any problems.
Tried asking about this problem in number crunching, but received no response.
Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated

Tom

...If I let boinc run with no other activity, after 30-45 minutes windows shuts down...

Does it shut down or go into sleep mode (hibernation)? Are there any messages about that in the windows event log?

...it also stops processing current task...

Does it resume the task later on or is it aborted?

If I am using the pc, it will run without any problems.

What are your preferences set to regarding "Suspend work while computer is in use?"

Gruß,
Gundolf

That means your system is indeed going into sleep mode or hibernation, which is odd because that should only happen if there's no CPU activity, and BOINC should be keeping the CPU busy.

On the few systems I've seen this happen to, I've simply disabled all sleep modes within Windows and it usually takes care of the problem.

Have turned sleep mode off, let you know later if that works (30-45mins)

Thank you both so very much for your help! removing the sleep option seems to have cured the problem. 1 1/2 hrs with no problems.
