Message 42335 - Posted: 3 Nov 2004, 0:47:42 UTC

I have bought a new (new to me) server and was wondering how i go about running boinc as a service.

I have it running, but now theres no way to view its progress. I would prefer it running as a service as services do not need you to log in to run them....

So is there a way to view the progress while running as a service
Does boinc run stable as a service
Will boinc contact servers as necessary when needed for more work, etc

Thanks for help...

Use BoincView. There are instructions available.

Yes, it appears to be stable.

Yes, BOINC_CLI does contact servers as needed.

You can get BOINCView here.

The author is still developing it, so it can change a bit from release to release, and sometimes not all features work, but it does the job.

I run five systems, including servers with BOINC as a service, without problems.

There shouldn't be any difference as long as you leave the GUI app minimized on the messages tab (default).
