	Hi, I have Windows XP Home version and internet Chello 30 Mbits/s. I instal Bonic atach to project Bonic@home but BonicManager cant connect to internet. What can I do ? Thank. By. ____________

	Make sure BOINC can pass through your firewall. There isn't any project called Bonic@Home, nor BOINC@Home. There is a BOINC site, with BOINC forums, but no project to attach to. So, since you post it at Seti, I suppose you mean you attached to Seti@Home. BOINC is the managing program, it doesn't do any of the calculations. The science applications of the various projects will do the calculations. These projects are called things like Seti, Einstein, Drugdiscovery, Climateprediction etc. etc. In order to get these projects to download the correct science applications and work to your computer, you will have to attach them to BOINC. And for BOINC to work correctly, you will have to allow it it get access to its various parts and to the Internet. For BOINC to communicate with its various parts, make sure your firewall allows things like boinc.exe, boincmgr.exe, boincscr.exe and boinc.scr to pass through (on TCP port 31416). To allow BOINC to connect to the internet, make sure that boinc.exe has access to the internet on TCP ports 80 and 443. By the way, it shows here at Seti that your computer managed to make contact. It's just that you don't have work, but that's because there still isn't much work to be had. 	BOINC.exe has to be enabled for inbound for either your host (local control only) or your LAN (remote control) on port 31416. Some firewalls also have outbound rules. BOINC_mgr.exe, BOINC.scr and BOINC_cmd.exe need to be allowed outbound access on port 31416 on either the local machine for local control only or the LAN for remote control. ____________ BOINC WIKI

	I'm running Seti and Einstein on 4 computers 24/7. Only on my main PC, AMD Quad-core running Win7, do I have the problem where BOINC is disconnected and shows incorrect password. I have to do a SELECT COMPUTER, enter LocalHost and the password fills in automatically. Everything is then fine until tomorrow when I will probably have to do it again. The four BOINC tasks appear to keep running - I just can't display them until I Select Computer again. Bob B. ____________

	That is a problem with your password file. What OS are you running? Where is your BOINC Data directory installed? (first few lines of a fresh restart will show this). Can you find "gui_rpc_auth.cfg"? Do the contents make sense? Have you restarted BOINC since it was changed last? ____________ BOINC WIKI

	I'm running Win7 Ultimate 32-bit. My BOINC files are on my D drive. I found the .CFG file and it contains a 32 character hex number. The problem hasn't happened for several days now. I'm running the same version on 3 other computers, running Win7 Pro, Win7 Enterprise and Win2000 Pro. This was the only one with the problem. Thanks for the response. Bob B. ____________

You can change the 32 digit hex number to something different if you want to control several computers from one. The BOINC manager not being able to commuincate with the BOINC daemon is typically a problem with a firewall, some other application using the same port (31416) or a BOINC daemon that is not running. ____________ BOINC WIKI
