Its obvious the Shuttle needed replacement about 10 years ago. The shuttle is made up of largely mid 1970's technology, that'd be like the Air Force flying a B-17 bomber in the 1980's. Sadly it seems there will be no real replacement as again scientific exploration will fall prey to short sighted political leadership.
