Message 1037177 - Posted: 30 Sep 2010, 0:58:48 UTC

Someone with a powerful machine can report 2,000+ results?

My BOINC can't.. :-(

Reporting 2140 completed tasks, not requesting new tasks
Scheduler request failed: HTTP service unavailable

..and/or..

Reporting 2154 completed tasks, not requesting new tasks
Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
Scheduler request failed: Failure when receiving data from the peer
Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.

..and currently still hundreds, thousands of results ULing..

Nobody has been able to report work for about 11 hours now......
The scheduling server has been disabled since then.
There was a period of time yesterday that it was running, and some folks have posted that they were able to report results and some got a bit of work as well.

But until the boyz get back into the lab this morning and do some more sorting if necessary, and then restart the scheduler, no reporting of the uploaded results are possible.

The scheduler should now be able to handle arbitrarily large requests; I just tested it with a 39MB request reporting 10,028 results.

If anyone is still having problems with large requests, please compress your scheduler request file and email it to me (davea at ssl . berkeley . edu )

Message 1037471 - Posted: 30 Sep 2010, 17:33:40 UTC - in response to Message 1037452.

I have had one rig just fail reporting only 1905 WUs several times....
But with several failure modes.

Couldn't connect to server.....
HTTP service not unavailable...
HTTP internal server error.....

So I think I will wait until tomorrow and see if those errors are resolved before submitting anything for analysis.

Others might consider this as well, or we might be chasing our tails over something that is server related rather than Boinc related.

None of my 4 computers can upload. I will just wait till later.

But my error is another that you did not get:

I just checked, and my top rig with over 5000 completed WUs to report got through, reported, and got some new work. On auto pilot, with no manual button pushing.

So, I suspect that David's fix is working OK so far.

It's just a matter of hitting the servers at the right moment during this logjam.

And BTW, thank you David for posting your information in this thread.

Is the report split in 1000 result pieces?

I have only DSL light (48 KB/s DL - 8 KB/s UL). After speed test, 48/10.
Shared 3:1 for both PCs.
This mean, the 940 BE machine have only 7.5 KB/s for UL.
It would help if BOINC would report only small values of results - for to increase the possibility for to reach the scheduler..

Currently..
Reporting 4681 completed tasks, requesting new tasks for GPU
Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
Scheduler request failed: Couldn't connect to server
Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.

The rig I just checked had a total of 5142......and the report looks like it went through in one pass. Nothing to indicate multiple attempts of partial reporting.

BTW.

I had contact with Dr. Anderson..

Soon we will get a new client - with which we could limit the results/report [EDIT: *].

I should get info from Rom if the DEV-V is available, I'll post it here then..

[EDIT: * via cc_config.xml file: <max_tasks_reported>N</max_tasks_reported>]

It looks like it's coming in changeset 22467 and if I'm reading it right should be a cc_config option

I agree, that will be very nice. When the load is high, it's hard to get sched requests through when you are trying to report 2000+ tasks at a time. Knocking it down to 100-200 during the heavy traffic times would make it much easier.

O.K., here we go.. BOINC DEV*-V6.12.2 is available.

..inter alia:

..
client: add <max_tasks_reported> config item: limit the # of completed tasks reported per RPC.
