It’s called “Hanny’s Voorwerp†after its discoverer, Dutch amateur astronomer Hanny van Arkel. Apparently _voorwerp_ means something like “thingummy†or “whatsit†here. It’s now thought to be a cloud of intergalactic gas being ionized by radiation from the black hole at the centre of the galaxy just above it in the photo, IC 2497. I've been doing a bit of Moonzoo myself. It's pretty cool to see how cratered the moon is even in what appears to be relatively smooth areas. Its also kinda fun to see rock falls landslides and crater tracks. I still have yet to find an lander or manmade material on the moon In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face.
