> To have English only ...

I never advocated or recommended "English only". And you know that.

> Your stating of wanting English only ...

I never advocated or stated "wanting English only". And you know that.

Mr. Utzig, why do you criticize yet again for things I never said or asserted? Perhaps because you know that the basic tenets are valid and you can't deal with that?

You seem to have a problem with the fact that English is currently the world's lingua franca. Well, stop trying to make that everyone else's problem. The best overall *CHOICE* for posting in fora like these is English, and you know it. You just don't like it. You can rant all you like, employ all the Sophistry you can muster, sterotype those you disagree with, etc., etc., but you won't change that truth one iota.

Yes,but different forums for different languages are the answer here

I wouldn’t dream of depriving you of the pleasure of annoying people, but please do not claim you are serving a greater interest.

Anyway, with a near 20% growth, and 1.5 billions citizens,
I would say that we should all start to learn chineese...lol

By reading all the post I guess we all agree but it is getting
confusing. I don't see any problem in posting using any languages.
For those who can communicate in English and enjoy doing it, it
surely give more chances of being understood by more people,
nothing more, nothing less. I always post in english because I
like it, but I could start a thread in French or Indonesian...
Of course I would expect people to reply to me in the language
I have adressed.

Suppose a German user is reading this thread and he doesn't
understand very well the meaning of what I am saying. He could
very well ask a particular german user in german to explain
him something. There is nothing annoying in that.

inch'Allah

Well, I don’t see you struggling expressing yourself in English, everyone agrees this forum shouldn’t be confined to English only and there is something obscure about your reasoning.

Hi everybody,

i agree, that english is the most understood language on the internet. But why starting a kind of war like this? I never had problems with posts in a foreign language i don't understand. If i'm interested in the 'value' of that particular post, i try to translate. If i'm unfortunate in translating i kindly ask if someone is able to translate it for me. Normally it's no problem, if you are friendly and polite. If you are rude and agressive, it's no wonder, you don't get an answer.

Just a thought, and the usually 2 (Euro-)cents ;)

Aloha, Uli

I suggest you clear you mind and reread all the posts. The general tone is ‘try to use English if possible’. And your view seems more like ‘only use English if absolutely necessarily’. And like everyone else you are entitled to your opinion as I’m entitled to mine.

This, my friend, contradicts the fact that this is a public forum. Public meaning that I should be able to read and/or reply to any post. I neither speak, read nor write any language other than the one you are reading right now. I agree with the person who left the original post quoted above.

Once again, this is a public forum.

This is my take on this whole thing:

If I see a thread started in another language other than the one and only language I happen to use, I pass it by. I do not bother going into the thread.

If I see a thread, with an interesting subject line, I enter it and start reading. What bothers me is the fact that someone will leave a post in English, whether it's their first or second language, and someone else will answer that post in another language, leaving me scratching my head wondering what the answer was.

I don't advocate "English only....". Although, hey, what can I say? I can't read or write another language. My suggestion is: If you're more comfortable with your first (non-English) language, write the subject line in your langauge. I will just pass it by since I won't be able to read it anyway. If you're in a thread started in English, use English. If you're like me, "mono-lingua", ....
