Well, it seems to come down to this: One vote for the Tower of Babel (from Mr. Utzig). Just about everyone else being in favor of free choice, with the recognition that English is more likely to reach the most participants, including both those whose first language is English and those whose first language is not. --Bill |

Haven't I asked you to stop your Sophistry and to stay on point? If you want to argue and pick a fight, at least address the points raised and stop putting your own words in other people's mouths, OK? To wit (once again): 1. I never said or implied that I or anyone else needed to read every post. That is your stupid idea, not mine, so stop criticizing me for it. It's never been my position. For you to keep arguing that is simply dishonest. 2. I never suggested, nor would ever want, to exclude those who have a poor comprehension of English. Again, that is your stupid idea, not mine, so stop criticizing me for it. It's never been my position. For you to keep arguing otherwise is simply dishonest. My post specifically referenced "being in favor of free choice". 3. "too nosey"? You know essentially nothing about me. That assertion is an ad hominem attack that is intellectually cheap and dishonest. It is your own stupid idea, so don't criticize me for it. --Bill |

What the hell started all this crap? If someone wants to use their native tongue, good on them. If someone doesn't speak that language and wants to know what is posted, go find out! I personally am somewhat intrigued as to a response that is posted in something other than English. Makes the boards both frustrating, but interesting and educational too. Being an Englishman with only a small knowledge of French (lived and worked there for a year) and a vague memory of my German, I am at a disadvantage to my European brothers and sisters. We just raise our voices and add an accent and hope for the best. Languages are not our strong point. And I hastily add that I do not speak for all crunchers from the UK. Just the ones I know! Go learn and respect others and their languages. Abeo, abeo, abeo, actum est, comites! |

You, I, and everyone else have no > need to read every post - especially if it is written in another language. > > -H. Richard Utzig Stereotyping and generalization As you may have guessed, English is not my native language and in that no-English (Dutch) language I was raised to be polite. That also included trying to speak in the language (English, French and German) of the one you are addressing. Besides, if you aren’t able to understand English, you’ll have a hard time trying to post anything here or very lucky you pressed the right links. Also besides the fact I understand the general lines of you German posts, if your post was not meant for everyone to read, you should have emailed it, asked for a private messaging system or refrained yourself from posting that top-secret information. Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind the occasional educational German post, but I get the impression you would just post in German to annoy people and I hope I'm wrong. |

Isn't this the seti@home message board for number crunching? We are all on the same team here, right? Please move your language discussion to the cafe message board. marty The needs of many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one. |

A very authoritary one. Well, you just found yourself a new moderator job here. Good luck... Marc |
