Running version 4.13, I need to take the system down for maintainance, probably going to have to reinstall the seti software from go. Is there a graceful way to shutdown boinc so work isn't lost? |

I am not sure how to understand your question. I never do a 'install' of BOINC software. Only create a folder, download and uncompress BOINC client there and run it. Okay gambling around a little bit with access rights and autostart options. But this is all individual stuff. So, if you only do all this "normal" way, there is no reinstall needed. You may only stop BOINC and backup the folder where you placed the BOINC software. After the maintenace you may restore it (if needed). Check owner, access rights and such things and start BOINC again. How to stop and start BOINC for backup depends on how you handle this normally. To add to Jens' answer, I'd suggest that you look at your Linux box's shutdown scripts. I run Slackware and the way processes are shutdown on Slack, I don't even give a thought to worrying about something BOINC-specific. On Slackware, kill is called in intervals with increasing "priority". BOINC should shut down gracefully with pretty much anything kill throws it. I haven't seen any issues on my system yet. |

I use ctrl-c when in the terminal to stop Boinc... I hope this helps. |
