If i understand you correctly you want to connect your 98 comp to the internet and run freeproxy on it? Then it is absolutely no problem to setup BOINC on knoppix to use the 98 comp as proxy. Even if the name resolution don't work, you can use the ip address as proxy address in BOINC. I have a similar setup using proxomitron to proxy from my main connected comp to other systems. If you want to include knoppix into the windows network, you can setup the samba demon on knoppix. Your windows comps wouldn't notice it's not a windows machine. Hope that helps. Aloha, Uli |

To prevent losing work and my host id when rebooting, I run boinc within a folder that is actually an SMB share from my windows box. Would obviously work with another linux box too. Although I have heard of bad mojo when it comes to using NFS so tread lightly. The only problem I have seen has been with LHC. They seem to do some very strange filesystem calls that don't agree with any kind of network storage. 90% of my work units were erroring out. But seti is running like a charm. I have also hear of people using a USB memory device to store their boinc directory on. Whatever works I guess :) A member of The Knights Who Say NI! I guess he knows how to get it operational since he is using USB memory sticks. Greetz ;-)))) |
