Team-based account creation A Create team account URL is shown on every team page. Accounts created through this URL will belong to that team and will have the same SETI@home preferences as its founder. For example, you can create a team for your school or company, and set up your preferences to show a team logo in the screensaver graphics. Then get your friends and coworkers to register for SETI@home through the URL shown in the team page, and they will automatically belong to your team and will have the logo in their screensaver graphics. ========== I'm not really sure what they are wanting The Team Founders to do here, and what if the Members of the Team don't want the same Preferences as the Team Founder, did anybody ever think of that ... ??? For now I'll just forgo this until I get some clarification on the matter... |

Just my first thought. > ... and what if the Members of the Team don't want the same Preferences as the > > Team Founder, did anybody ever think of that ... ??? > They simply change the preferences as they would also do, when creating their account by the normal way? Also just a thought. KEINE PANIK |

I thought it was for dummy accounts. For example BBR Team Starfire has an account for all the slow computers that people still run but did not want to impact the stats on their faster computers. BOINC WIKI BOINCing since 2002/12/8 |

Team-based account creation is used to setup an account and join the team, of the team page you are looking at, all in one procedure. 98SE XP2500+ @ 2.1 GHz Boinc v5.8.8 And God said"Let there be light."But then the program crashed because he was trying to access the 'light' property of a NULL universe pointer. |

I think this is actually a very good idea. It allows the team founder to make a set of 'normal' preferences (including the aforementioned team logo) and then when new members join, and are asking for help on how to get things up and running, you don't have to wonder and ask about all their settings when they don't even know how or where to set them. After they get up and running they can explore the settings in greater detail and adjust them how they see fit. A member of The Knights Who Say NI! It seem a good idea, but will confuse people with classic accounts! |

Good idea, yes, can simplify someone's life when starting with Boinc. But it forces the team founder to have a set of 'normal' ;-) preferences and not such that would suit her/him at best. Maybe some 'Template' user would be a better choice? Peter |
