I have uploaded copies of ports of the BOINC client and SETI at HOME to the FreeBSD port queue. They are available here: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=ports/72714 net/boinc-client 4.13 http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=ports/72715 astro/boinc-setiathome 4.03 Tested and working on FreeBSD 5.2.1, 5.3b7 and 6.0. Should work on 4.10 too. Unshar boinc-client into /usr/ports/net/boinc-client and boinc-setiathome into /usr/ports/astro/boinc-setiathome then type "make install" in each. To run, type "boinc-client". The first time, it will prompt for the SETI URL and your account ID both of which are in the email you got when you registered for SETI. See "man boinc-client" for more info. -jr |

I appreciate the time and effort you expended trying to get BOINC into the ports tree. Thank you! The port does not work for FreeBSD 4.10-STABLE. One thing I discovered is rc_subr changed between version 4 and version 5. This may or may not be relevent. Work units bomb out in under 10 minutes. Here is the stderr out for one of the failed results: 4.13 process exited with code 131 (0x83) 1 0 setiathome_4.3_i386-portbld-freebsd4.10 in malloc(): warning: recursive call setiathome_4.3_i386-portbld-freebsd4.10 in malloc(): warning: recursive call SIGSEGV: segmentation violation Exiting... setiathome_4.3_i386-portbld-freebsd4.10 in free(): warning: recursive call setiathome_4.3_i386-portbld-freebsd4.10 in free(): warning: recursive call setiathome_4.3_i386-portbld-freebsd4.10 in free(): warning: recursive call This might just be a problem that can't be solved short of me upgrading to 5.2. Again, thanks for the effort! I'll see if I can get a 5.x box built in the next couple weeks. |

Every work unit so far has bombed although the port compiled w/o error. |
