I just have a sick feeling that Astronomy, Space Sciences and all science research in general will continue to take a back burner that is even further back than before. Not only are we sending our grandkids a bill for our greed now. But we are also blocking whatever the 'Next Big Thing' might be for them to pay it with by killing basic research. How depressing. |

Dont sell the kids short. Hope fully they see what our generation did with the me first attitude and go back to what we used to be. And im betting bob the enzyte guy makes more money than most science projects are funded. [/quote] Old James |

I'm not sure why Ozz bumped this from crunch to here. I didn't even know that there was a politics forum. ];-) A philosophy thread would have been better. I wasn't trying to spark a political debate but rather a moral debate in general about all of us here and now. Well I hope you are both right. I will not likely be here to see in thirty years. If I am. I won't get to book a timeshare on the moon as I thought would certainly be possible. Maybe Mars. I remember in the mid-late sixties dreaming of "2001" and not wanting to wait. Skylab came and went... then nothing. No huge commercial space stations with Howard Johnsons and Hilton hotels. No Pan-Am shuttle. Heck even our experimental shuttle fleet is almost retired and the Orion Project pretty much stalled. Wonder if we reach the moon and planets by 2501. We simply don't have the patience to finish stuff anymore. If we need something Apple will come up with the iThing. Oh well. Back to the crunchers. S |

I'm not sure why Ozz bumped this from crunch to here. [Off topic] Since it is well accepted that not everyone abides by the same moral codes as everyone else, what one might consider a moral/philosophical statement would be political in nature to another. Hence, it is more appropriate in the Politics forum where differing philosophical views and the ensuing discussions are a little bit more tolerated than in other forums. |

The last President would not tolerate the answers that Science gave to his questions as they went against the dogma of his belief system. I hope the the current President will do better at using Science. This would go a long way towards getting science back on track (at least until some other President comes along that is anti-Science). BOINC WIKI |
