[quote] Yes I do. It seriously discriminates against the poor, making them pay more than their fair share. I know you all just went into orbit. The rich, to avoid the tax -- being smart at least about money, hire lobbyists and make campaign contributions, they have the money to do this -- get special interest tax breaks written into the tax code, which allow them to pay no tax at all. Now that they are paying nothing the poor have to make up the difference. If we had a flat rate there would not be a perception by the rich that they are being soaked to pay for others and would be less likely to hire lobbyists to get special tax breaks. I realize the Robin Hood mentality doesn't consider that the money flows through back doors totally avoiding the tax man, because none of these back doors are available to them and they don't realize they exist and will be enlarged at least as fast as they make the tax more progressive. |

unfortunately neither works. Sales tax is a flat tax and it always hits the little guy the worst. Whats really bad is I had to explain to a very intelligent coworker that just because corporate tax rates are higher than individual workers doesnt mean the corporations actually pay more as a percentage in taxes. there are so many deductions that corporations can take that individuals arent allowed. Perhaps if I were allowed to depreciate everything I own, as corporations are allowed to do, I be sitting pretty as well. Or if I got to write off my mileage just going to work or the oil I have to change every few thousand miles that are part of getting me to work. Apparently, the hidden items that the average person isn't allowed to use and corporations are allowed are a well guarded secret of very expensive CPA's The excuse for low corporate taxes is that they'd leave the country. pardon me but they already have. Has anyone noticed that most corporations are running away from america instead of towards it. The exception being foreign automakers who have figured out that building an SUV in Toothless, Alabama is cheaper than shipping across oceans. The numbers are already there. We dont make many things in this country anymore. Anyone remember Stanley tools and their Made in America Slogan. Not anymore you don't. Most of their tools were produced in Mexico and finished here. Now their tools are almost exclusively made in Taiwan or any number of really cheap labor 3rd world countries. Then theirs the little trick of setting up corporate offices in Bermuda. A sweet trick where they create an "office" in Bermuda, use it for 1 meeting a year, and they can claim their corporation is based in Bermuda. Unfortunate for them the US gov't put an end to this type of shenanigans. Needless to say, let them go. Corporations pride themselves with bringing large amounts of jobs and sales tax to a community(walmart) so they deserve to not pay taxes for at least 10 years on the property they now own. I want that sweet deal for myself. I promise to work really hard and bring home the bacon, can I get that deal too? No of course not. I don't have the legal team of Dewey, Cheatum, & Howe. In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |
