Go with what CPU-Z reports, not BOINC.

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU
At least SSSE3 available, so SSE3 should be available too.

I'm with Raistmer, I'm surprised that CPU-Z doesn't indicate SSSE3 for a 6700 in which case the AK-V8 SSSE3x Opt App would give you a massive improvement.

My E6600 has SSSE3, so I can't imagine why your E6700 wouldn't, too.

I think the significant point the OP was raising was that BOINC was only referencing SSE2, not SSE3 - that was the factor that was confusing him.

It's been well discussed before: BOINC doesn't check the CPU capabilities itself, it relies on what the operating system tells it. And Windows XP goes up to SSE2, and no further.

That is to say: Windows XP safely and properly supports all SIMD levels - certainly SSE4.1, and I'm pretty sure SSE4.2 - but it only uses and reports SSE2.

It's a logical and understandable inference that, if BOINC only 'knows' about SSE2, then it would only allow science applications to the same level: in this case the inference would be wrong.

BOINC is only a manager for the science applications: we all know managers that know far less about the technicalities of the production process than the workers they manage!

Vista (home premium 32), too, only reports up to SSE2 on my E6600, yet it's using AK V8 SSSE3x right now...

Vista should be able to report up to SSE3 if I'm not mistaken.
