It's a not-so-subtle message: "If you play in our back yard, we can play in yours."

Let's just hope neither side does anything (else) stupid until cooler heads actually stop and think about our long term interests.

It's a shame we can't lock Cheney up in an undisclosed location and let him out in February.

Reason number two why we didn't just nuke all the innocent men woman and children in the middle east... ;)

(And of course, reason number one was that we might have injured the precious OIL reserves.)

Can you and Jeffey both agree on a common dictator and lock yourselves up instead of threatening our Vice President? K...thanks

That's right, way to go. Just keep prodding the sleeping giant with a pointy stick. repeat history, and ignore the warnings of admiral yamamoto just like the japanese emperor did.

honestly if the Russian navy made it to Venezuela it's a small miracle. Aside from the rusting hulks they call battleships the Russian military is barely capable of attacking a small defenseless country like Georgia. The US already knows that the Russian Navy is as much a threat as the Cuban navy is to America.
Of course this is a tactic to remind the US that the Russian can make it to the Gulf of Mexico. What they aren't saying is we are most likely tailing the "fleet" with several hunter/attack submarines that would eliminate the Russians in a heartbeat if they made the slightest provocative move towards the US.

Quite capable of making quite a mess.

barely capable of attacking a small defenseless country like Georgia. ...

And routed the defenders long before the slumbering giants of Europe and America had even woken up to the lost war.

... slightest provocative move towards the US.

There's still enough nukes around to destroy the Earth even faster than our Global Warming...

Chavez is worried about the USA's intentions and he likely has good reason to be. I'm sure Chavez is going to get friendly with Russia as extra insurance against USA imperialism.

The Revolution will not be Televised A little video on Chavez and his strife with the USA.

Since nationalizing most of the Venezuelan economy, Chavez is sitting on a rate of growth that rivals that of China.

Is there a lesson to be learned about spreading the wealth?

I don't blame him one bit for getting friendly with the Russians.

And like the majority of the Chinese and Russians, the majority of Venezuela's citizens live in poverty. Average income of less than $7,500 a year and a negative net migration rate (that means more people leave than emigrate to Venezuela). Sounds like a great place, huh?

...but hey, you just keep right on pretending that folks can't see through your BS...

And once again, you have stated the average income, but neglected to state the cost of living... ;)

Brick homes? You really are out of touch with reality... ;)

I heard on the radio that our Treasury Secretary Mr. Paulson went to Russia recently begging for money to help his intended bailout for his brothers on Wall Street. Seems like the Russians must not be so poor, or why would Mr. Paulson go begging to them? Russia is loaded right now because they have something real the world needs. All the USA has is Tbills and a fiat currency.

One only has to look at a map to see that Russia is anything but poor. The country is immense; covering 11 time zones. Thanks to decades of communism and corruption, Russia's vast natural resources have been terribly mismanaged. I have no love for Czar Vladimir I, but so far they have kept the Russian economy on the rails and moving forward. The US needs to stop patting itself on back for "winning" the Cold War. That was nearly 20 years ago. We need to start thinking about the world in 2029. Russia is going to be a major player.
