I had previously tried to download the file to my windows pc and then transfer it to my linux box. The file downloaded as 9.02mb, so I tried downloading it directly through dial-up on my linux box and it downloaded fine. I'm not too linux-literate, but is it not possible to download a .gz or *nix file to a pc and then transfer it? Tom ID: 30332 ·

Yes, provided that it is treated as a binary file! Text files can get munged between Windows and unix/linux due to the different end-of-line chars used and also if there are missmatched char sets. (as windows and unix uses different LF/CR) ID: 30640 ·
