It's called an Avatar, just go into your Account and you can edit the Forum Preferences by uploading a picture of your choice off your Harddrive...

Mine comes out blurry as well. I believe there is a problem with the account update function. I've been trying to update my account for a week and the "update account" button is not responding.

I took the original pic and converted it in PhotoShop to contain the 100X100 16 million colors in jpeg format. It ended with a 4.2Kb file size and did not wash out, shrink or stretch the pic colors.

I wondered how you got your pic so clear and sharp.

It's also a good idea to try the photo in both JPEG and PNG formats, as some work better as a JPEG, some as a PNG.

You also have to have them small. Some pics won't save, but SETI@HOme just passes by with no error message. GIF should work, but does not. My experience is that a very small file works better than the larger ones, even though you are supposed to be able to go up to 40-50K.

Until a short while ago it was cmpletely busted. But it was fixed and finally would take my image ...

You can look in the companion page for Profiles that I wrote...

Though I need to put in something about Avatars ...

I have them turned off as they just chew up bandwidth ...

Misfit,

I only just uploaded an avatar today, and thinking I was being clever, I resized the picture to 100x100 myself, my smugness was rewarded by the same error you've been presented with, for both jpegs and pngs, I could only get it to work only uploading the image sized to 150x150 therefore giving the server some work to do, it then uploaded every time.

Best wishes

You should be able to just upload the image I pasted on the message before - or just use the url where it's hosted at right now - that image is 100x100. Give it a try and let me know.

The image is stored at :

Sorry if it seems as if I'm interfering, but, I think the problem here, as I discovered earlier today with my avatar (such as it is!) is that at the moment, for some reason, the server does not seem to like being given 100x100 images for use as avatars, give it something a little bigger, which it can then itself reduce a little bit such as
which is 110x110 pixels, and then it's happy to set the picture as an avatar.

Just my two pennies worth

He-he, that figures doesn't it? They request a 100x100 image and then can't work with it properly. Next thing you know we'll have to send them 5x7's through the mail.
