Hi,

I've installed a new DLink DSL-G624T Router, and now I can't upload or download my work units.

I get the error message :-

  • 30/06/2008 17:34:17||Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
  • 30/06/2008 17:34:17|SETI@home|Temporarily failed upload of 30ap08ac.912.18886.3.8.155_1_0: http error
  • 30/06/2008 17:34:17|SETI@home|Backing off 2 hr 5 min 42 sec on upload of 30ap08ac.912.18886.3.8.155_1_0
  • 30/06/2008 17:34:19||Access to reference site succeeded - project servers may be temporarily down.
  • 30/06/2008 17:34:57|SETI@home|Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. Requesting 21601 seconds of work, reporting 1 completed tasks
  • 30/06/2008 17:36:02|SETI@home|Scheduler request failed: HTTP internal server error

And on the router I get the message :-

  • Frag of proto 6.

I don't know whether the messages relate, as I can find no meaning for the router's error log!

I've also disabled the router's internal firewall, but that is all that has changed. Still running Windows XP.

Please can anyone help?

Thanks.

Are TCP ports 80 and 443 open (or stealthed) in the router? Perhaps you need to put some IP routing in place, tell it that such and so machine on those IP addresses are allowed to use those ports.

No joy, I even put one machine in the DMZ, which in theory bypasses all the firewalls, and connects directly to the 'net. The routing again in theory should be ok, as every other program works ok, as does the web and https.

SETI recently changed some of their servers around, thus invalidating many IP addresses stored in clients' DNS cache. Have you tried exiting and restarting BOINC?

This has the look of an MTU size problem.

From a command prompt, type the following commands:

ping setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu -l 1500 -f

ping setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu -l 1492 -f

Post the results of the two commands.

Thank you. I looked at what my MTU should be, and Demon changed from 1500 to 1460 when the line went to 8Mb, but the router setup still thought Demon was 1500.

I changed it to 1460 and all my WUs have uploaded and downloaded.

BTW the results out of interest are :-

  • C:\Documents and Settings\Home>ping setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu -l 1500 –f
  • Pinging setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu [128.32.18.150] with 1500 bytes of data: *Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set.

  • Ping statistics for 128.32.18.150:
  • Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),

Glad you got it fixed.

1460 is smaller than usual, but if it works, I am not going to suggest trying to change it.
