In the spirit of the other "Fun With ..." threads, here's a place to discuss government rebate checks.

Maybe I'll by a core 2 duo mac mini to add to the pool. The rebate under consideration might just cover it. Whooopie! Or maybe I could use it for a few free months at a good porno web site. I wonder how Bush baby would like that. That would be stimulating for my economy.

The whole master-rebate thing seems to be a cover for more tax breaks for the rich and getting more wiretapping laws overturned.

They say we need the economic stimulus now but the checks won't arrive until sometime between May-August....doesn't make much sense

I guess the thinking is that, even though the checks won't be coming until then, people will spend money now because they know the checks are coming.

I bet the folks that run gambling establishments are drooling about a refund. Easy money goes out of had easy at the casinos. Yet another way for our government to put oodles of money in the hands of people who already have more than they need. I really like government bashing.

I think most of it will go to buy new TV sets, HDTV being the new thing. Or Ipods etc.

What did you do with your 2001 rebate check?
I went to McDonald's 100 times and super-sized! :)

Weren't the tax cuts for the wealthy supposed to boost the economy?

Has Bush finally been forced to admit (even though this rebate check is just peanuts <no slight against Peanuts intended>) that more money in the hands of the masses is better for the economy than concentrating more in the hands of the wealthy?

A wealthy person receiving $10 million dollars simply drops it into their existing investment portfolios....They already have everything they need so the money simply makes them more bulletproof.

OR

$10 million divided amongst 5,000 working people. Each individual receives $2,000 which will immediately be put to work in the economy by way of paying off some debt or purchacing housegoods, electronics, beer, smokes and whatever else working people consume regularily.
The money stays active, not hidden away as an investment.

The last time the govt offered a rebate it was really a refund advance and was figured into your federal taxes. And what if you broke even? It meant you now owed that money.

I plan on putting it into my vacation savings account, let it get some interest. Thats where my income tax refund is going as soon as I get all the forms to file. Got a disneyland trip to plan.

LOL. I already got my HDTV....and my PS3....

New SETI cruncher.

Now that is a distinct possibility. I have been wanting a quad core. Most likely, the money will go in the bank so I can get a little closer to the down payment I need for a house.

I've retired from working, so I probably won't get anything. But if I do, it'll go into my checking account. From there it'll probably go into a munibond mutual fund. Or, possibly to Uncle Sam to whom I owe additional income tax for 2007 (if the check arrives in time - doubtful).

As of 2-3 days ago, the word was the checks would go out in May. So, that's past April 15.

Actually, yeah. So many people have been leaving this state that there are LOTS of houses around for sale. It's definitely a buyer's market around here these days...
