Wow for every Iraqi killed by a bomber or whatever their family gets $200,000, the family of a soldier only gets $150,000 because Iraqis are more important. A friend reupped in October, he was supposed to get $15,000 reupp bonus. His family counted on this money and was promised it would come before the end of the year. Well they were just notified that we paid out too much to Iraqis and there is nothing left for our Soldiers...They won't get THEIR money until this spring IF Congress sees fit to pass enough money. This is total BS, our soldiers should come first not last! Official Abuser of Boinc Buttons... And no good credit hound! |

It's the new american dream... ;) (Funny how the folks pushing this garbage are the very same folks who had company paid training and leisure military service.) Don't share the women I've met in the past year. I hear there's skank going around. Founder of BOINC team Objectivists. Oh the humanity! Rational people crunching data! That would be the liberalism of 3 years of President Ford, 8 years of President Reagan, 4 years of President Bush (Snr), and 7 years of President Bush (Jnr) (total 22 years Republican Presidents) versus the 4 years of President Carter and 8 years of President Clinton (total 12 years Democratic Presidents). Perhaps you're commenting on those damned liberal Republicans ... I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ... |

Nice list of presidents - and of all the ones on the list NONE gave a dollar to a soldier. Congress controls the money not the president. He can only approve or veto a spending bill. He can send a proposed budget to congress, but as noted - he doesn't get what he wants all the time. I don't know where the $200,000 comes from to pay for an Iraqi that has died, never have heard it mentioned and couldn't find anything about it on the internet. If this is supposedly coming out of money budgeted for aid to Iran it comes from a different "pot" of money that the Federal Budget dedicates to the Army. an American serviceman has an insurance policy that pays the death benefit if you die while on active duty (Sevicemans Group Life Insurance) this is not paid out of the Army's budget. there are some other benefits paid to widows and orphans and those are paid by the Army's budget but it mostly consists of accumulated pay and leave (vacation) and money to pay for his family to relocate to where they elect to settle. Your friends bonus got pigeonholed because Senator Harry Reid(D)US Senate and Nancy Pelosi(D), US House of Representatives have decided they will force President Bush out of Iraq by constricting the US Armys budget. The Army decided to hold off paying a lot of things until they see what happens in April when congress sends it's next money bill to the president. There are lots of news stories about that if you care to look. Man - a creature made at the end of the week's work when God was tired. - Mark Twain |

As far as it goes, since 1945 - Democratic control both houses and President - 10 years Democratic control both houses - 19 years Democratic control of House of Representives (who control the budget) 25 years Republican control both houses and President - 2 years Republican control both houses 6 years Republican control of House of Representives - 2 years So since 1945 the Republicans have had control of the money 2 years. You can be President all you want but if what you want cost anything guess what? Man - a creature made at the end of the week's work when God was tired. - Mark Twain |

This is total BS, our soldiers should come first not last! 1. Presidents don't make law, Congress does. 2. Politicians tend to listen to the will of their constituents and just like it's wrong for a politician to vote himself a raise, it's also wrong for a government dependent to vote his or herself a raise. Simply put, I feel that those who do not contribute to society should not have a say in how our society is run. Stop the unemployed, uneducated, and the welfare leeches from voting, and you'll see a rapid change in how things are run in this country as far as the "haves" being punished for the life decisions made by the "have nots". |
