Perhaps thats the image we have been fed. You are not completely wrong but Benazir was a woman with enourmous power even before she was murdered. I do suspect her gender had something to do with her death... but there was a lot more.. I wonder when the USA will have a black or female president... Will the UK ever have a black Prime Minister? Not exactly the same thing as the denial of women's right to power on an everyday level... but non of our societies are righteous. Benazir could have made something special for all of us. We will never know now. |

cRunchy i agree with your post. on the point of islamic women i do think its hard for us to justify our piety, because it wasnt all that long ago we westerners treat our women like crap too, i dislike their treatment as much as the next person, but their culture is much older and the traditions run deep, therefore its just natural the the wheels of equality turn slower over there, as i keep saying to friends who are zealous on the matter, its just a matter of time before their own society will adapt to the changing world without any interference from us. We British allready know what its like to have women in power and although i dont really agree with her politics, i can say that our iron lady was probably one of the strongest leaders we have ever had. As to whether we will have a black prime minister. i have to be carefull not to sound racist. I have absolutly no preference to the color of our leaders skin, black, pink, yellow..whatever. but i do very much care that the leader of the so called British Empire has to have British values. i have no problem with islam for example but i would certainly not want a muslim leader. now people could counter with we have x number of muslims no or x number of pakistani...well i dont overly care, they came to Britain as it was and thats how i like it. by all means express your culture but i like mine so dont contaminate it (ie ram it down our throats) |

sometimes Scary, i find what you have to say can be quite insightfull, but i have to say i have notice something.. What great logic. Using your criteria, Jeffrey is about 7:1, but I am about 315:1. So that means, what? Jeffrey is more relevant than Scary Capitalist? And me, well I must be a bloomin' seer, sage and prophet! |

its just a matter of time before their own society will adapt to the changing world without any interference from us. I wouldn't bet on that... ;) It may not be 1984 but George Orwell sure did see the future . . . |

sometimes Scary, i find what you have to say can be quite insightfull, but i have to say i have notice something.. your not far wrong, however myself and jeffrey have hardly done enough at this point to calculate 'fair cpu usage'. as to your score, im not implying that it means anything or trying to sound important but i do applaud the amount you have put into the project and i hope to follow your example.. i was merely trying to point out that scary writes an awfull lot of posts compared to amount of work done, implying my opinion that his poor computers spend far too much time proccesing crap and not enough serious crunching, in fact it wasnt really about the crunching side of things, it was just an ever so slightly politer way of saying he talks too much, lol as too my own lack of work, well im an old user with several accs, but i got put off when seti-boinc came out. now however my need to help outways my distaste of the interface and i have roughly 10 GHz worth of cpu to help me catch up =D vive la Seti |

its just a matter of time before their own society will adapt to the changing world without any interference from us. actually, i would bet on that. not sure what others think, but i consider the arabs as one of the most insightfull and forward thinking of the islamic nations. hell i would even go as far as say i was a fan. as to the gambling, here would be my first chip. Dr. Nahed Taher google her if you please, i mean she is only one of the top 100 most powerfull women on the planet. oh and here is Sahar El-Sallab Maha Al-Ghunaim and even Imre Barmanbek pls tell me more on how muslims cannot shape their own future, i can cite plenty more example that contradict typical western thinking on the 'plight' of islamic women. the ways in which a lot of islamic women are treat bad may very well be different to the ways western women are treat bad, but walk into any random busy pup and the odds of meeting rapists, women beaters, phycological torturers and many more flavours of weak men are pretty damn high. again i come back to a previous statement we should keep our bloody noses out of their business unless we (westerners) are actually asked for help. |

pls tell me more on how muslims cannot shape their own future Oh they most certainly can, and most certainly will... But Muslims will never conform to 'western values'... Hence, the reason for the 'Iraq quagmire'... ;) (As you have said, 'we should keep our bloody noses out of their business'.) It may not be 1984 but George Orwell sure did see the future . . . |

its just a matter of time before their own society will adapt to the changing world without any interference from us. It seems to me that they have past their hayday and are going backwards. Muslims in the 14th century seemed more progressive than today... Official Abuser of Boinc Buttons... And no good credit hound! |

It seems to me that they have past their hayday and are going backwards. You mean because they don't walk around half naked in a drunken stupor with an uncontrollable lust for wealth and power? Did you ever stop to consider that maybe they're just not into 'your breed' of advancement? ;) It may not be 1984 but George Orwell sure did see the future . . . |

Says it all right there. Your moral relativism at work. After all, who are you to judge anything? Founder of BOINC team Objectivists. Oh the humanity! Rational people crunching data! I did NOT authorize this belly writing! |

It seems to me that they have past their hayday and are going backwards. Half naked? Do you mean like at the beach? Or are you talking about girls showing their ankles? Anyway, there are numerous examples of uncontrollable lust for wealth and power. That is not just a Christian trait. As for drunkenness . . . well, I don't believe you are that naive. |

Just seems like most of the useful things were done long ago... I agree... Aside from 'social networking products' created by 'idle minds', how has the western world advanced? We all know computers are 90% play-toys and only 10% useful for most people, and are 100% pain in the ### when incorporated into a product that used to function just fine before the integration... So please spare me that little nugget of info... I'm just trying to figure out what we mean by 'advancement'... 'cause I'm just not seeing it... ;) It may not be 1984 but George Orwell sure did see the future . . . |

im afraid you wll have to elaborate, i mean who exactly is more allowed to 'judge' the whole IRA incident than the Irish and the English? as to moral relativism i think you may be confusing this thread with your thread/s on philisophical standpoints, which is all very well in a chat room, but in the real world situational ethics are a perfectly relavant way of dealing with life. everybody knows its not ok to kill someone, but if that someone was about to swing you baby by the ankles to smash her skull on the wall its not ok to stop them? of course we could always follow absolutism and say that its not ok to kill no matter what or that it is ok to kill...how would you have it because as far as i can see either of those non moral relativisms would lead to disaster. |

Don't you understand ? None of you are able or morally superior. You should not judge. Don't you get it? All things are equal! When your son steals the lawn mower on Saturday to earn a few extra bucks....or when he STEALS YOUR CAR TO MEET HIS FRIENDS.... It's the same as someone that blows up a prime minister. You know....everything's equal and all. Founder of BOINC team Objectivists. Oh the humanity! Rational people crunching data! I did NOT authorize this belly writing! |

Oooo Ooo! Christians didn't do this new assassination.. Muslims did! And if anybody ever one time did some act of violence in the name of what I believe in I'd be SCREAMING from the roof tops to stop them. THE SETI boards would ban me right away for being too vehement in my antagonism toward it. We (atheists, christians, americans, brits, aussies, kiwis....whatever) IRISH REBELS !! (Like's been said...which is a slight against our good irish friends) don't make a habit of sawing off heads of 'infidels'. Call a spade a spade. Founder of BOINC team Objectivists. Oh the humanity! Really? Post a link to the latest news story Exactly. When the Klan does something like this...which is VERY rare...(it's more common for black on white murder out of 'hate' to occur) most southerners renounce it right away. There's nor room for error in interpretation. Founder of BOINC team Objectivists. Oh the humanity! Rational people crunching data! I did NOT authorize this belly writing! |

Don't you understand ? i am perfectly comfortable calling a fool a fool, the problem is trying to conform to the rules of the forum when dealing with a complete and utter selfrightious moron. and if you are trying to tell me tha someone stealing a smoke from your pack and someone stealing sex (e.g rape) from your woman is morally the same, then i thank all the gods that may exist that i dont know you personaly. you are scary and not in an intimidating sort of way, i would certainly not let someone like you look after my children. you seem like the kinda person that in a friendly fire incident would say 'oops' and shrug it off. i advice going to get counceling because you seem to suffer from some serious neurosis. all men and women have the right to judge, if we dont self judge and deal with situations as they arise then the world would quite litterly become hell on earth. judging is another way of making a decision and without decisions there would be no understanding. a world where no one understood what others were thinking and why they were doing what they do would be a very strange place to live. now if you please, try to write something constructive and stop trying to annoy or antagonize other people, in this case me in particular. i dont like you and im certain you feel the same way. but this is a shared forum for all and with the odd exception i like the people here and want to stay. so lets just cool what we are about and try to be civilised. |
