This country has become quite pathetic in it's apathy.

Lack of apathy? As in, 'stormtroopers' or 'robots'... 'cause nowadays, that's all I ever see...

I think your view may be a bit skewed, Jeff. Nothing personal, of course. Just an observation. Where you see a stormtrooper, I see a person who just doesn't care all that much about what he/she is doing.

Employees - When they are questioned about doing others wrong, they say: 'I'm just doing my job.'

That, in and of itself, is apathy. " Just doing my job " means there is no passion for the job itself. Therefore, the person has become apathetic about making things better.

Managers - When they don't have the answer, they say: 'Well, I dunno what to tell ya.'

Again. That is apathy. The lack of passion to ask questions or find answers. One of the things I hear around our plant quite a lot is, " Well that's the way we have always done it. " That is being apathetic too.

Customer Service - When they can't provide the service, they say: 'My computer won't let me do that.'

Gee. Not wanting to get off their butt to provide " customer service "...guess what....apathy rears it's ugly head once again.

See what I mean? I'm quite sure that everyone is familiar with these phrases, they are in the scripts...

That may be true, but a person with any passion for what they are doing, will do whatever they can to remedy a given situation. Those who lack the wil, or passion, are guilty of being apathetic.

Personally, I think this country lacks personal integrity... 'Yes sir Big Brother!'... ;)

Perhaps. I still think that most people still have integrity, but lack the will to show it.

Exactly my point! I think that we are on the same page here...

Isn't that an oxymoron? Someone has integrity, but they fail to uphold their integrity? ;)

If the page includes different words for the same basic problem....then perhaps we just might be...lol

That isn't an oxymoron. The thing is, a person can still have personal integrity ( such as not being willing to go rob a bank because he/she knows it's wrong ) but lack the will to do whatever they can to make things better at their place of employment.

On another side, integrity is sometimes best when it's handled with dignity and subtlety as well.

Oh...and IMO.....dignity and pride are separate entities most of the time.

Of course they are, pride is usually acquired at the expense of the dignity of others...

There should be a law against that... ;)

Strange....I don't agree with him on this one.

Jeff seems to think that people cannot have pride and dignity at the same time. Or perhaps I am missing some other meaning in his words?

I ( for instance ) have never had to tread on someone's dignity to take pride in who I am. And I have never allowed my dignity to be trampled by anyone else. Many have tried. I have had some very crappy jobs in my lifetime ( and I think it's the people who run businesses that Jeff refers to ) and in each and every one of them, I took pride in my work, no matter how menial a job it was, and I always had the dignity to do the absolute best job I could no matter what I was doing.

Dignity cannot be taken away from someone unless they allow it to be taken.

Pride is something that is sometimes best when swallowed. To do so does not mean that you have to give up your dignity.

Strange? I only find it strange when people do agree with me, at which point, I usually start to ponder motives... ;)

He can "ponder" all he likes, there is no ulterior motive. People tend to forget a very important & logical fact: - A broken clock is right twice per day!

So you're saying that Jeffrey is broken? He'll like that. ;)
