The download of this executable (why an exe??) is stopping any work from being done.

Does anyone else have this issue? The client version is 5.10.13. I am behind an HTTP proxy.

Another machine on my same network (5.4.11 client) is giving me almost the same, but it says "HTTP Internal Server Error" instead of "HTTP Error" and it will soon have no more units to chug through.

Any ideas? Or do I just wait this through...

why an exe??

BOINC is just a framework and doesn't actually process any science. For that, each project you attached to must download their own science app.

SETI just released a new app, v5.27 to process the new MultiBeam workunits that they will begin passing out.

Part of the BOINC framework is the ability to automatically upgrade the science app on the fly so that new apps with new functionality and bug fixes can always be used.

Your computer is now trying to download the new science executable, and my guess is your HTTP proxy is blocking it for some reason. Either that or your firewall may be blocking it as well.

I would check into these programs for your solution so that you may begin to start downloading the new workunits.

Actually, BOINC only sends the new executable when it has a matching task. So if BOINC is trying to download this executable you were assigned a task that needs it.

Back to the basic problem.

Has the client ever worked? Has it worked since the proxy was installed?

But he didn't say he was having problems downloading WUs, nor were any messages showing saying he couldn't. I presume he has a new MultiBeam WU that needs to be crunched but needs the new executable first.

I'm making the assumption that his HTTP proxy is blocking EXE downloads as a virus-stopping measure.

Of course, your questions will help verify if my assumptions were correct.

I had this problem too. Turns out the download of the 5.27 client was being directed to nyud.net, which is part of caching network. My corporate firewall has a "proxy prevention" rule which keeps me from accessing nyud.net. By looking at the error message that I was getting from my firewall, I determined that I could remove ".nyud.net" from the download URL for the 5.27 client and download it manually. I installed that into the projects directory for SETI@home and everything was good -- I'm now once again downloading WUs and processing them.

Thanks to all who have posted.

It is a corporate firewall and I do not have access to the configuration. I can download other executable files (via the browser), so I don't think it's blocking all .EXE files.

I think this new EXE was also being downloaded with some new work units, so that explanation sounds quite correct.

The caching site sounds like it might be the problem. Unfortunately I do not know how to get past it. Does anyone know if I can manually download and update the exe?? Sort of a pain, but I don't really know what else to do.

This client has indeed worked before, so perhaps something has changed locally.

Thanks again.

If someone has the executable, they would need to post it online and provide you the URL. I have a system which has the executable, but I have no way of posting it online.

Actually that's not going to help much, since that's the same target the hosts are using when they try to connect on their own. I tried it and got a timeout (as expected).

I could get to the file over the weekend, but did not download it because I was not on the machine that needed it. Now that I am at work I cannot get the file, it just times out. :-|

It also looks like I am getting HTTP errors for all my work units as well now. Super.

Your best bet would be to download the file on a machine that's not blocked by the proxy, store it on a USB drive (if you have one) then copy it over to your work machine*.

*Please remember to use BOINC only on machines which you are authorized to run it on. If you do not have explicit permission, you may be held liable for damages from the company you work at.

I've had the same error message problem for about 5 days. I don't have a proxy thingo. I have a single home puter with a standard ADSL internet connection

Xp firewall is turned off and I have tried with and without the Kaspersky internet suite firewall enabled. I originally thought Kaspersky was blocking the download but don't think thats the case.???

Good news... After some hours of retraining Kaspersky 5.27 has downloaded and begun to crunch. It appears Kaspersky was the culprit after all.

8/9/2007 2:55:31 PM|SETI@home|Backing off 1 hr 50 min 22 sec on download of file setiathome_5.27_windows_intelx86.exe

@ CHamp - i believe Eric said to 'disregard' those messages -

you can also shut down the BOINC Manager

- go to run

type in: ipconfig /flushdns

hit OK . . . then,

type in: ipconfig /registerdns

hit OK

Start Your BOINC Manager again and leave everything alone - it all takes care of itself . . .

@ least this is all that i did and i am now crunchin' away - Best of Luck Sir!
