Sagan's "pale blue dot" always reminded me of Voltaire's "Micromegas" story (which some claim is one of the earliest if not the earliest "sci-fi" story). When I look at the "pale blue dot" it almost makes me laugh to think of all the religious & ideological wars & horrors us "insects" perpetrate on each other; or think the vastness of space was made just for us!

wow, bruno said it much more eloquently then I would. September 11... 3000 people killed, thats a spec in the history of mankind (not just the galaxy), when you think of all the millions killed in genocides all over the world (no, I am not talking about the jews in the holocaust, that was but one example, it occured more times). An alient would NEVER concern itself with such a trivial spec of the history of such a trivial spec of a planet, unless he stumbled on it by chance.

I can imagine holocausts on a galactic level, empires that span galaxies, with millions of billions (10^15) of people killed in galactic conflicts, systems laid to waste, neigh, whole galaxies purged of life, whole speciest extinct!
