Silly me, I thought the last two were lorries.

Here in Australia trucks are (or used to be) 24V electrical systems.

EDIT- BTW, to avoid confusion here in Australia this is not a truck.

[quote]Nope, all those I've seen were 12v - I've seen them at truck stops, and the current generation of big rigs run 12v, and several prior generations do, too. (Truck driver talkin' here!)

Here in the U.S.A., the later generations of heavy-duty truck (and, yes, I'm talking BIG rig here, like your second photo!) are 12v. (You know how big-rig drivers refer to all non class-5 or above vehicles on the CB? 4-wheelers! As in "that idiot *&^*& four-wheeler just cut me off!" or [for a SUV] "that four-wheeler is lookin' to roll over")

Without a view of the grill, I can't be sure, but that looks like a "Freightliner Century class" tractor in the second photo. I've driven a few of these! (4, to be exact)

I've never been to Australia because I couldn't learn the language. However I have been corresponding with a guy that lives there. He took some pictures of a couple of truck/trains I found interesting. Near as I can tell they have 62 tires on the ground. They are on his website at http://www.arach.net.au/~flyspec/happy_snaps.htm.
Later,
John. In Arizona.

Yep, road trains.
Prime mover & 3 trailers or B-double with 2 trailers. Maximum length is about 55 metres. (Or for bush work a truck with 2 trailers- more traction with the load over the driving wheels).
There are longer combinations, but they can't drive on public roads- they're for mine operations only.

Thread has gone incredibly off-topic just with littlegreenmanfrommars's comment! Maybe this is normal in SETI forums though... :)
