I am trying again to use BOINC and Seti@Home after getting an email asking me get back to calculating. With the new versions of BOINC and SAH, I still have these issues on a mandriva linux 10.1 system:

1. every html popup produced by BOINC opens gedit, rather than Mozilla or the Mandriva browser. How do I fix this?

2. After one day, BOINC typically crashes hard, requiring a big red button restart. This was worst with both EinsteinAH and setiAH projects running, so now I am trying without Einstein.

Thank you. w9esco9m@gmail.com

Welome back !

Open a shell and enter "BROWSER=/opt/mozilla/mozilla ; export BROWSER" or where ever your browser is installed.
If you whish to make it permanent, add the statement above to the /etc/profile or the profile of your shell in your home directory.

Oh, not good. Could be a problem with your hardware.
How excatly do your system crashing ? - What happens ?
Do your system getting hot ?
Is your memory OK ? - Could you please test it with memtest86+.

Thank you very much for this suggestion, but it does not work for this system. I type BROWSER=/usr/local/firefox/firefox; export BROWSER and the in the same (bash) shell, type ./run_manager and still every time I press any button that wants to show a html response, I get gedit opening, rather than a browser.

No crashes after I detached EinsteinAH. When I was running it along with SetiAH, then sometime when I was away, the system crashed with essentially no system messages, that is, it was completely dead, no response. I'll try the memtest86+ you mention, that is a good suggestion.

It could also be any other hardware related problem (overheating (bad fans ?), CPU, cache or memory).
Did you system running stable, if you only let einstein running ?
