Hello! I am here asking for help to a problem that affected a team mate.

The e-mail he provided to the Boinc projects have the status invalid, because he didn't used the mail for a significant time and the mail provider cancelled his account.

He asked to the password to be sent to the mail account that has been activated again and nothing is sent.

He don't remember the password and the account key, how can he recover the account?

Let him make sure the account key isn't sent to his SPAM folder. Most ISPs have a separate on server SPAM filter these days. It's possible the account key got stuck in that.

And let him use this form to get the account key.

If I'm reading you right, then he is still running Boinc/SETI -- but simply can't login to this site because of email/password?

If so, then he can login without an email/password.

Using a text editor, have him open account_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml in his Boinc directory.

In there, copy the series of numbers and letters inbetween the authenticator tag.

I.e.," <authenticator>0000aaaabbbbbbbcccccc</authenticator> "

That is the account key and can be used to log in instead of email/pass.

Once he is logged in, he can update his account information with a new email/pass.

Everything went downhill when BOINC was introduced.
#1. I cannot link my old account to the new one, it keeps on saying I need to provide my email address (and of course I do).
#2. When you click on "For SETI@home Classic participants" on the main page, it just links me to my account. No futher instructions or help.
#3. There is no tech email address to provide for help.
#4. I loaded the BOINC program on my computer and as an advanced user, I could not figure it out immediately.

In summation, you want folks to help you with the project, but make it too much hassle to get involved.

Sincerely,

Brian Packer

That's where these forums come in. Did you know there are only 4 people work full time at Seti and that they can't possibly have an email help desk? So ask your questions on these help desk forums and let yourself be helped.

What's wrong about reading up about it on the forums, or ask a thing or two about it?

(It's not a good idea to leave your email address in readable form on any open forum. With all these bots and harvesters crawling around, you'll only add to your SPAM.)

I am also having a similar problem...I had a classic account setup with an old e-mail address and I don't remember the password. I created a new BOINC account but never linked it with the old one. How can I link it if I don't know my classic password or account number? Thanks.

Ageless, thanks for the quick response, but I had quickly browsed the message boards for the answer before I posted and read the thread you referenced. My problem is that I don't have the old user_info.SAH file. All the computers that I ran the classic seti on have been completely reloaded. I would probably need someone to manually link my old account...if possible. My old account e-mail is almost identical to my current e-mail (aside from the isp)...so they should be able to see that I'm not lying about it. But, I don't want to waste anyone's time if it really doesn't matter other than me getting credit for the old work units.
Thanks.
