boinc_4.05 fails to start on my G4 Mac with the error message,
-bash: ./boinc_4.05_powerpc-apple-darwin: Malformed Mach-o file.

3.18 starts ok.

System version is 10.3.5

Does anybody have any idea what the problem is?

Bernie B.

(Edit: changed 4.18 to 3.18)

Make sure you stop and quit the 3.18 file.

Place the file in the Applications folder.

Then in terminal type this:

chmod +x /Applications/boinc_4.05_powerpc-apple-darwin

Hit return.

Now type

cd /Applications

Then type

./boinc_4.05_powerpc-apple-darwin

It should work. If not, trash the file you have and download a fresh copy.

My first download of 4.05 was incomplete and wouldn't launch. I did the download again and it worked fine. Use "Get info" to check to see if the length of your file is 6,164,156 bytes. If it isn't, then you have a corrupted copy.

This is exactly what I found the problem to be. The odd thing is that the .gz archive expanded without a complaint! Nevertheless, the file was much too small; a second download corrected the situation and I'm now up and running.

Thanks to you and Cheryl P. for taking the time to reply.
