Message 236686 - Posted: 24 Jan 2006, 3:16:31 UTC

I am just getting used to the new BOINC interface to SETI, and am slightly annoyed that packet analysis results in terms of the "real data" ie: best gaussian, best pulse and best triplet, are not reported in the "RESULTS" section. Why spend all this time computing - and not see any results? In the classic interface - specific results for each completed packet were available to view after the packet analysis was completed....

Is there a link somewhere to the analysis results that allows one to see the actual interesting data that was hopefully extracted?

Any help will be appreciated....

I agree entirely with the General's complaint about not beng able to see the results of my copmputations. I recruited several SETI participants by showing them the neat log-log time-frequency graphs and, in particular, the "interesting" results that were occasionally pointed out to me when viewing the triplets. doublets, etc.

BRING THAT BACK SOMEHOW PLEASE.

OK.... searching the science message boards, there is a way to log your work unit results, including keeping all the data on Best Gaussians, Pulses and Triplets....

SETI@Home-MapView offers a way to plot your work units against a sky star
chart, and as the work units are completed, the respective gaussian, pulse and triplet data is plotted.

SEE:
"Use SETI@home-MapView together with BoincLogX.
Mapview gives you the possibility to view a lot of details about the spikes, gaussians, triplets and pulses."

Now that this is taken care of - why not use this forum to discuss the most promissing signals detected by the users..? It seems from the BOINC interface, and minimalist SETI@Home website - that we users need to band together to discuss the possibility that a signal was found. Here are two of my best gaussian results - can anybody beat them?:

Best Gaussians:
Power Fit Score
2.27 0.37 6.18
2.61 .52 5.05

Okay, SETI@home-MapView looks cool. Is there a version for Unix and Mac users though?

Hi Andrew:

Can't help you on the UNIX or MAC version for MapView....
maybe you can contact the author of the SW for help.

Here is one of my latest Gaussians:

Location: BOOTES at RA:15hr 8min; DEC: 27deg 37min

Power: 2.14.... score = 5.5.... looks almost like a pure
gaussian source....

Hallo ,

I always wonder and still am wondering : if you see the distribution of best candidates along the sky they seem to be somewhat randomized along the sky .
Taking into account the highly numbers of nearby stars in the MILKY WAY ( call it density per degree ) i would believe that exactly in this region we would receive more candidates then elsewhere .... It doesn't seem to be so .

Can somebody come with a good explanation ?

My best Gaussian is a 6.94.

Where are you getting Score power and fit from? How do I see those?

Hi Michael;

I appreciate the post.... I find it interesting
that it seems that we have peaked on scores for Gaussians at about 6.9
with power of about 2.5. As we gather more info - we will probably find that
these are truely weak Gaussian signals.

For instance, I wonder what the power, fit and score of the WOW!
signal would be in terms of the current SETI scoring algorithms.

I am downloading my latest results from BoincLogX, and will
post what my latest results are. Please keep track of where exactly
your best signals came from .... ie: RA and Dec... ( duh!)

Another simple question I have - that some other SETI expert may be able
to answer is .... which signal types are the most important? Is an
excellent high power pulse more important than a moderate gaussian? Is
a high powered triplet more important than a pulse? Does anybody know?

So long as you can find a Unix or MAC add-on that records historical data (ideally in CSV format) then you could use SETI@home map view on a windows system to read and plot these CSV files. If the CSV format is not yet supported by mapview then I am sure Björn would be willing to add support for it. He added support into mapview for a couple of the old SETI classic add-ons I had used in the past.

I am processing a WU right now with a Gaussian score of 7.844, power 2.87, and triplet power of 9.26, how is this on the table? What are the max values anyway?

And a spike power score of 25.29086 for the above.

Well I can tell you that my highest Gaussian is a 6.7 and I havent seen anything over 7 as of yet so that seems like a great signal.
