My computer is NOT IDLE!!! Why on earth is it chewing up 100% CPU when it is not even in screen saver?!?! What stupid people do you have working on BOINC that do not understand the concept of S C R E E N S A V E R?! When it is not on, I'm BUSY, shut the damn thing off. If I have to do it myself every freaking time, what's the point of it being a S C R E E N S A V E R?! Geesh! This project just went to hell.

Well, lets see here:

• 1. BOINC does not have a screen saver.
  
• 2. Individual BOINC projects have screen savers.
  
• 3. The screensaver will go away when moving the mouse or tapping a keyboard key.
  
• 4. SETI and all other projects clients work very well in the background while you're working on your PC[s].
  
• 5. I do not run the SETI screensaver, takes cycles from the work being done.
  
• 6. I work on both of my PCs while my projects happily crunch away.
  
• 7. BOINC does NOT SUCK!

BOINC doesn't even use up CPU cycles..

It's SETI that does that!!!

I love people that CAN NOT read and then complain.

You do have the option of suspending the science project when the system is NOT idle. That feature works very well..

You have the option of telling it how much of the CPU to use. That features works very well..

What does not work well.. Is you ability to read..

If in fact boinc does suck, all that needs to be done is to have science apps that blow, then they cancel each other out and all is right with the world. Yeah, that's why I get the big bucks... for solving the really tough ones.

After looking @ your screen shot, it looks like you have the correct settings, but you need to make sure you're updating the correct preferences for your computer and that the settings on the BOINC Manager are correctly set as well.

First off, there are different preferences that can be set on the web site (School, Home, Work and Default). You can set which profile your computer is using by selecting the computer to view in your profile. Make sure you're updating the profile that your computer is using. If you've only set the default profile and have not setup other profiles, then you're computer will use the default preferences.

If that is setup correctly, I would look at the settings under the Command menu in the Boinc Manager. There are settings there that will cause your preferences to be ignored if not setup correctly (i.e. Run Always vs Run Based on Preferences).

Of course the Wiki is the best source for this information.

Last point: Everything is going to be just fine. It is only SETI@HOME. Relax.
