Message 202976 - Posted: 4 Dec 2005, 20:22:35 UTC

Hi all. I have been doing SETI work for about three years now. I see the old project is being discontinued and I had to sign up on this BOINK.... BOINGK.... BOINQUE... BOINC software. I was hunting around and found these message boards. Too bad I lost all my SETI credits, I actually had to wait until I had enough credits to post. My '93 Atari just can't blow through these projects very quickly.

Are any you involved in any other BOINC projects?

I guess I will just look around for a whlie... It doesn't look like this board is smokin' along at a rockets pace.

Hope y'all have a nice Christmas and Hanukkah,
Todd

I do work for several projects as do most of the people here. I started with SETI and added others after I looked them over. Rosetta@home is looking to add users, check them out if you are interested.

BTW, your old credits aren't lost, look in *your account* to see them listed there. Mine are also listed in my sig as are those of many users.

Welcome,

As both Misfit and DB have suggested, there are alot mor projects out there, BoiNC related or not. Yes your Classic numbers will be reflected later on when the final 'snapshot' occurs. Glad to have you here. :-) One of the benefits of BOINC is that I can wake up one day and say that I want to crunch for "this project because I feel, or someone in my family has this disease/problem..." and the next day you can go back and crunch something else... :-)

No matter where you go, there you are...

Well... Looks like things picked up there... Thank you for the info. I will generally lurk the boards and post every now and then. Just to let you know, I am not at all faithful... I will post on other boards and then stop by here to take y'all out for a twirl. I look forward to getting to know you.

Just out of curiosity, are y'all a bunch of supergeeks running around with pocket protectors or wierdos huffin' keyboard cleaning canned air?.... If anyone here is used to sitting naked at their keyboard, I would appreciate ya puttin' on a towel while I am in here... Thanks

Todd,

As the others have said, there are a number of other projects out there and there are some additional ones that will be coming online in the future.

Well, well, well... Thanks for the nice reception. In the spirit of this eclectic board, I am posting in my undies...

I guess the next question I would have would be;... Where in the heck are you?

I am stuck here in Sarasota, Florida. It is bitter cold here. Temp is plunging into the fifties tonight (can't leave the house with flesh exposed to the elements [I'm posting in my thermal undies]) Tomorrow the sun will be mercilessly beating down on us. Temp will bearly break the 75f mark. Pray for me.

I just downloaded BONIC today and signed up to continue SETI and also signed up for EINSTEIN....had to download the BETA for EINSTEIN though because I have an ATI video card and couldn't see the screensaver. Thank goodness SETI gave me the option to retrieve my password using the user_info.sah. I'm in the military and move around a lot and forgot my password. Until recently I thought I was going to loose all my credit for the SETI work I did (not that anyone really cares but me). Thank you SETI@HOME for coming up with that before I got a new account! Thank you, thank you, thank you. Question...should I just remove the old SETI@HOME software or leave it on my computer? Also, where is my credit saved?

Merry Christmas (there IS a Santa Claus), Happy Holidays, etc....
