No, this is not possible. The only possibility to get rid of the messages is close the GUI and start it over again. Greetings from Belgium. Help Desk: use "Most recent answer first" sorting |

It's not that (I) want to restart the messages so I don't see them any more, it's that I want to see more messages (that have already scrolled off the top of the log and vanished). |

Use the scrollbar on the right-hand side of the BOINC GUI to see previous messages. You could also enlarge the BOINC GUI window so more lines appear. Maybe even increase your screen resolution so more of everything will fit. I don't know if switching to "Small Fonts" would help; many applications don't honor that setting correctly. |

It's not that the messages have scrolled off the screen, but that the Messages window only appears to hold a maximum total number of lines. Any lines older than that are dropped from the log screen entirely, and you can't see them even by scrolling all the way to the top of the list. This happens particularly (as mentioned before) when downloading a handful of P@H WUs as each generates a large number of log messages. Changing the effective size of the display doesn't help this situation -- it's apparently a constant somewhere in the code. |

I've had it hold so many messages that the scrollbar "thumb" (the part you grab to scroll) was less than a quarter-inch long. That's a LOT of messages; 3-4 days worth. (But I'm not doing P@H.) You can also find ALL of the Messages tab contents from the entire session in the "stdout.txt" file in the main BOINC directory. NOTE that the file is renamed to "stdout.old" when you restart BOINC, and the previous "stdout.old" file is deleted. So you'll have to grab it EVERYTIME you shutdown BOINC, and save it somewhere else. |

(But I'm not doing P@H.) I'll have to do a rough count next time it happens, but it's up in the hundreds of lines somewhere. P@H can generate that just downloading a half-dozen or so WUs, from a single work request, because it gets many small files per WU. Then I can no longer see what was recently done on S@H because it's all scrolled off the end. I expect I can get the info off the text file on disk, but it requires more effort to do things that way. I'd hope that an increased constant would be an easy solution. But since I'm running an ancient OS (Win98), it's also possible that it's an OS-related issue and nothing can be done about it anyway. |

The max was set because the files could grow large enough to crash systems, so I doubt it will go away entirely. I think the max is set at 200 messages, the number could be changed if the file size is acceptable and enough people want more messages. Don't look for this to be adjusted any time soon, the way it is done now prevents more problems than it causes. Note for people not running predictor: Downloading one preditor workunit can generate 20 to 40 messages. John Keck BOINCing since 2002/12/08 |

The BOINC logging messages can be filtered by flags set in a specific file, according to this page. Try it. If it doesn't work, you might check the Predictor pages to see if they have anything similar. |
