I set BOINC as the default screensaver, like I used to do with "old" and GOOD SETI@home program... Instead of graphics and data, BOINC's screensaver wrote: "This is a secured version and this version isn't supported". What the heck? I run WinXP Home SP1. What is a "secured desktop"?

A secured desktop is when you set the screensaver with a password protection. Once the screensaver is running, only the person who knows the password can unlock the screensaver and make the PC accessible again for use.

Boinc's screensaver does not allow the use of a password protection. This is a known issue.

For info: when you are on the webpage "Questions and Problems", you can try to use the "Keyword search".

A search on "Secured desktop" delivers following result.

Hi DANIEL
By default windows xp ships with secure desktop enabled, you can disable it with the following registry edit

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows]
"SecureDesktop"=dword:0000000

This has nothing to do with logon passwords, so it wont affect your password.

Can you use a non-BOINC screensaver with password protection and not have any problems with BOINC running?? I would rather not waste the CPU time having ANY screensaver running; a blank screen is fine.
