I am working as a technichan an a big company in sweden. Many of our server do never reach the limit of their capacity. Conclusion: There are plenty of power left to run SETI on them also. But i am not sure it is a good idea... the systems we are running are critical for the company daily work... What are your thoughts in this matter? |

I tend to agree with what Paul has included in the BOINC FAQ. You can view the relevant page here. About two thirds of the way down, there is a paragraph entitled What machines should I run the BOINC Software on?. Review this paragraph and the following 4 paragraphs. |

Although I am a big fan of BOINC and think it is a major improvement over seti I, I would not advise running it on a critical system yet. There has not been enough time to find all the little bugs that might be nothing to my home systems but could be a real problem on a critical system. Installing it too soon could cause management to not allow you to try it again later when more of those pesky little critters have been squashed. Setting BOINC to only run after hours is a good idea, but remember there is a bug with that preference right now so it will not work unless it is your main preference with no venue preferences defined.
