Ok now this may seem strange to all of you but today when monitoring a pice of work I checked it's graphic and other details and recieved a strange frequency that would drop then rise by twice what it dropped eg. say the greater than arrow was the frequency it started > then dropped >>> then rose again >>>>>> It did this for about an hour then stopped and the frequency leveled out anyone have any ideas on what this was? Ok now this may seem strange to all of you but today when monitoring a pice of work I checked it's graphic and other details and recieved a strange frequency that would drop then rise by twice what it dropped eg. say the greater than arrow was the frequency Your physical unit was part of a larger unit and was split before it was sent to you. After you finish crunching it it is sent back to Berkeley where they do some checking to see if your computer is processing the unit correctly and then it is put back together. What you see may be something and then again it may not be anything. It is hard to say because if a plane flew over that could be what you are seeing, we have "heard" Voyager in the past, etc. Berkeley is actually the only people that can tell us for sure if what we are seeing means anything. If it is "interesting" to them then they will train some telescopes on that area of the sky and see if then can find it again.

well I know it wasn't a plane as I know all the flight paths of every airline/airport in the country and non of them go over/near my street/house although before the frequency pattern started I was listening to my radio and that got alot of static so my new theorie is an electro magnetic disturbance ID: 175100 · |

well I know it wasn't a plane as I know all the flight paths of every airline/airport in the country and non of them go over/near my street/house although before the frequency pattern started I was listening to my radio and that got alot of static so my new theorie is an electro magnetic disturbance It is not your home or street the plane needs to fly over. These signals are received by a radio telescope and I am pretty sure it's not in your home :) I'd rather speak my mind because it hurts too much to bite my tongue. ok then I mean arg never mind bout my home but I checked out my radio for this strange sign it was showing and it started again I checked a tool I foudn on the internet that messures Electrical power surges apparently everday at about 4/5pm a huge power surge messes with things like seti probably duwe to the fact I have electrical cables only a few metres form my house. Also I have phone cables conecting to my house at the base of my window does anyone know if this could affect the client? ID: 175146 · |

NONE of this will have any affect on your WU's.. Some of the Work Units you are crunching were captured MONTHS ago; furthermore they have been reduced to bits and bytes before your PC even sees them I'd rather speak my mind because it hurts too much to bite my tongue. None of those things should affect Seti. Seti's data is recorded in Arecibo, Puerto Rico on a HUGE in ground radio dish. The data you analyze was recorded there and then taken to Berkeley California and split into chunks for us to analyze. The power flucuations from the major power lines are probably due to everyone coming home and using lots of electricity. As for the phone lines they emit so little EMF as to be negligable.

That dish outside your apartment is most likely passive unless it's for a 2 Way system like DirectWay. Furthermore the behavior you are describing would have caused your WU's to fail. Tough to prove at this point since all we see is 3 WU's processed by one of your computer. Since the WU is nothing more then digital data by the time you get it any type of external interference would not have changed the data received in a way that maninulated the data conntained in a TCP packet. It would however make it difficult to use your broadband connection. Now if you downloaed the SETI source code and made your won client you could have affected the data, but again the WU would have failed validation. ID: 186135 · |
