How can the top single user receive 3000+ more credits in the past 24 hours when little ol' me hasn't received ANY work units ("No work available") in the past 3+ days??

Are all of the work units being reserved for just CERTAIN people?

EDIT: Oops, I just refreshed that page and he/she got another 5000+ credits. So that's 8000+ credits in 24 hours; 205,000+ credits in the one month since the project has gone live. OK, they have a lot of machines, but they obviously aren't having ANY trouble getting workunits for them.

everyone is having the same problems, but he likely has set his preferences much higher when the wu's were readily available.

Be patient and you will get wu's, manually update your project every hour or so
I have my pref's set to 5-6 days, but I only have less than a day of work left.
if you run out of work, go back to classic seti

My prefs were set to 3-7 days. I finished ALL of the work 3+ days ago. SUPPOSEDLY (from statements in these forums), the server won't even GIVE you work beyond the 14 day deadline for returning units, so that's a maximum.

I've been updating every 30 minutes or so for over 3 days now (except when I'm asleep ). It's been nothing but "No work available" or "Project down for maintenance" or "Server can't open log file" or "No schedulers responded" for that entire time. Yet SOME people are getting enough units to get 8000+ credits in one day.

:) I wouldn't call it a conspiracy. :)
There's just something very screwy going on.

Is there or isn't there data to be processed?
If none, there is no reason for any of the users to be here; shut down the servers and move them over to some project with data to work on.
If there is work, MAKE IT AVAILABLE to the users; We're here to do the calcs; LET US DO THEM.

Or, here's an idea: post one SHORT little note EACH DAY to tell us what's up. It doesn't have to take more than five minutes on the way out the door to say: "The splitters are STILL not working." As it is, people (ALL VOLUNTEERS) are posting in droves wondering why they can't help S@H process their data, but we only get a status update every 3-4 days.

EDIT: I just rechecked the front page. My quote of "3-4 days" is a bit unfair. They have been a LITTLE better about posting status in the past week or so, but only one update since Monday, even though it's effectively been DOWN since Sunday. Where's the work units?

Or maybe there really ISN'T any work, and this whole SETI/BOINC project is just a ruse to see how many complaints get posted by idiots like me.

Note: For each of my last three posts, I've read the prior message, composed my message, hit "Post Reply", and then received a "Project is Down for Maintenance" notice. Five minutes later it's up and I can post. But then it goes down when I try to post the NEXT reply. Very odd.

It MUST be a conspiracy!!!

The transitioner has been woefully behind in granting credits. Recently they added at least one more. Supposedly it has been working through a tremendous backlog. I expect that this person is now seeing credit granted for work done several days to a couple of weeks ago. Remember that he has to wait for others to return validating results.

Beat me too it John.

Getting credit granted isn't a sign of recent WU activity.

I still think Seti Massivly underestimated how the many different proxy's that seti classic had took the load off there servers. Now that more and more boinc machines are hitting the servers hopefully they will see the error of there way. I had 8 machines hitting a proxy server under classic. The proxy would only attach once a day to upload work units and get more if needed. Now i have 8 machines hitting seti's servers every hour trying to get units. That is a small example since some teams had 100's of computers now all hitting 1 boinc server. Also my 8 machines process a wu in 3 hours. So now they are hitting the boinc server 8 times a day or or 64 net connections for all 8 machines daily if there are work units. Predictor the other boic project is suffering the same fate all the machines connecting looking for work units are overloading there server.

And the splitters are on vacation. "No work available" for 4+ days now.
Well, when it's not "No schedulers responded", that is.

Good side: They are posting "regular" status updates. Thank you! :)

Bad side: The stuff they are posting doesn't seem to "fit" with reality.

1) The bug that had "only been around for about 13 hours" prevented units being sent to users. But they haven't sent out ANY units for (now) over FIVE FULL DAYS! What is the cause of that?

2) They made 400K new "results" to send out. Yet less than 30 minutes after the project website came back up with that announcement, there were ZERO work units available. It's now been FIVE FULL DAYS with ZERO work units available.

I -know- I'm not on drugs! So what are THEY smoking? :)

WTFO?

[Trivial aside: Shouldn't they make "work units"? WE make the RESULTS to send back in!]
