I just installed the new version a few days ago and I've had to un-install it. Can someone help me figure out a way to have Boinc only run on the active profile and not on the inactive but logged in profiles in XP?

I have my preferences set to only process during inactivity. When a profile is logged on a version of Boinc is running (you can see the icon in the Systray).

When I switch to another profile (I do not log out of the one I'm in) this seems to be interpreted by Boinc as inactivity on the profile being switched FROM.

I have 4 profiles on my machine and all were logged in. I was getting a very sluggish response and when I checked Task Manager I saw 3 versions of Boinc running on the other 3 profiles taking up 97% of the CPU.

Is there a way to run only one "system" version of Boinc rather than having it run separately on each profile? I did not have this problem running any of the earlier versions. I would have multiple tasks (one on each profile) but no activity on any of them unless the current profile went to screen saver mode.

Hope this all makes sense.

DO not think I can help but for clarification, you say you have 3 wuwus running or just 3 seti 3.08s running and not processing. I think BOINC can only process 1 WUWU at a time unless you have dual or HT enabled processors..

Have you taken the BOINC out of the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup folder and moved it to the appropriate user Startup folder?

Thanks for the quick reply!

I hadn't because this is where the old version of Seti was and because of the kind of behavior I thought I'd get. I can take it out and only put it in my folder but then it won't run as often. This is a family computer and my kids are more likely to leave their profiles without logging out.

What I'm looking for (and it may not be possible) is to have it act as it did before: where 1) Seti is in the Systray of every profile logged in and 2)only runs when the current profile is inactive

If I can't get that then I'll take it out of the All Users folder and put it in only my user folder :(

Try nstalling the CLI as a service. The cli is in your BOINC directory. Make certain that you do not run the GUI at startup, and you will have to fix the permissions for the login account for the BOINC service.

Thanks John. I've checked my BOINC directory and I don't see anything that looks like CLI. What exactly is the CLI? I believe I know how to install something as a service but I don't what it is that I'm looking for.

Thanks!
