Hi, I recently switched from classic to BOINC and have processed a few WU (whenever available) but every time the processing is done, the client throws an windows message screen saying that it is accessing an illegal memory location and it crashes, requiring me to close it and it automatically restarts the process, but it will lose all the time from the error until the moment of closing the error screen. Immediately the results are sent out correctly (according the log) so it seems it does not lose the data, just throws a fatal error and loses a lot of time. See the log below. SETI@home - 2004-07-20 06:56:05 - Starting computation for result 12ja04ab.9108.14834.123566.198_0 using setiathome version 3.08 SETI@home - 2004-07-20 13:51:51 - Unrecoverable error for result 12ja04ab.9108.14834.123566.198_0 ( - exit code -1073741819 (0xc0000005)) SETI@home - 2004-07-20 13:51:51 - Deferring communication with project for 1 minutes and 0 seconds SETI@home - 2004-07-20 13:51:51 - Computation for result 12ja04ab.9108.14834.123566.198 finished SETI@home - 2004-07-20 13:51:51 - Starting computation for result 12ja04ab.9108.16225.947164.167_1 using setiathome version 3.08 SETI@home - 2004-07-20 13:51:51 - Started upload of 12ja04ab.9108.14834.123566.198_0_0 SETI@home - 2004-07-20 13:51:57 - Finished upload of 12ja04ab.9108.14834.123566.198_0_0 |

Hi John, Actually I do have Zonealarm running, enabled and working fine. Boinc_gui is allowed to connect to both Local and Internet, but I have disallowed it to run as Internet Server (for some unknown reason it asked for that right). The error I get has the title: seriathome_3.08_windows_intelx86.exe - Application Error The text on the message reads: The instruction at "0x69065358" referenced memory at "0x0000004c". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program [ OK ] The Boinc process then stops processing until the message is confirmed, from the process time in the Task Manager I conclude that the process terminates once confirmed and is immediately restarted to send out the result anyway and try to start processing a new WU. Let me know if you have a suggestion to repair the erroneous behaviour. |

I am using ZoneAlarm also. I allowed boinc_gui to act as a server for Internet and had no problems with it until now. I don't think it would give a problem to allow the program to act as a server. |

One WorkUnit went out without a glitch shortly thereafter, but the nightly transmission again failed, throwing me back several hours of waiting for confirmation (close screen and ending the process). It seems like it's related to being in screen saver mode??? I am running Win2K on laptop (Dell Inspiron 8200) with all critical patches installed. Zonealarm is version 2.6 because later versions are giving problems. (forgetting all settings after reboot). |

I never saw ZoneAlarm forget any settings during reboot. You should really look a little close at this firewall-thing. Kind regards Mike |
