I had very few problems with the "Classic" version of SETI@Home. I just downloaded and installed this new BOINC version and.... It takes forever to get any new work units to do and I have not been credited for the ones I have done. I always got instant credit with the "Classic" version. Also BOINC doesn't seem to be very automatic. "Classic" was 'set it and forget it'. So, what's with this BOINC....? |

Tell UC Berkley - its their reputation that's being damaged. I wrote to the chancellors office http://cio.chance.berkeley.edu/directory.html maybe they might take us seriously if everyone who has a "no work" problem writes to them. the man from the land down under |

I think I'm going to suggest that they retain both versions and let us decide which we want to use. I have no plans on doing any other data analysis which is, the way I understand it, what BOINC is all about. Once again, thanks. |

BOINC is a little more complicated than old Seti Owners manual as with all new "stuff" they are working to update BOINC......The resources are stretched to the limit now so I do not think they will keep both...... Bah!!! I am in it for the money |

User's won't "read" a readme.txt offered an install script most times, much less the "Owner Manual" that keeps getting referenced by the "cheerleaders" How many people have just sat down and read the "owner's manual" to their car, or the instructions to program their VCR? Plus, the Seti Owner's manual doesn't seem to answer the question "what if there are two flat ties and no gas in the tank, and the clock on the radio goes backwards?" Nothing about error or what they mean.. Which seems to be hitting people reguarly... |

I am in it for the money > Thanks Pascal. I have the "how to" pretty much figured out. It's just the not getting new work units and not getting credited for finished ones that irks me. With the over 5,000,000 users running SETI@Home we never ran out of work units with the "Classic" version. This is my second day and I think I have done 6 work units. With this new PC I built, I was doing from 8 to 9 units, and was always able to get new ones until the other day when I found out they were switching to BOINC. This may be off topic a bit but, why does BOINC think I have 2 CPUs? I have a single CPU motherboard. I haven't had a chance to research this yet. Once again, thanks.... |

Like I said, even if the "owners manual" was read, it says noting about "a flat", "out of gas", or what the "error lights on the dashboard" mean! In the world presented in the "Walgreens" ads, in "Perfect" there are no problems! But as "Walgreens" also says, we don't live in "Perfect"! "No work" has been an on-going problem with seti/boinc, almost since day 1 of the "production" version (6/22) "Credits" - it could atleast a week, and then you may not get the credits you requested..... |
